MASON, Ohio - MASON, Ohio – Top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball (33-20) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College (35-17) in a 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Baseball Championship elimination game, 7-2, at Prasco Park. 

TNU is now 9-5 in the all-time series versus Kentucky Wesleyan. The loss ends the season for Kentucky Wesleyan and advances the Trojans to the championship game to face Alderson Broaddus University (29-19) again on Saturday, May 14 at 11 AM. Alderson Broaddus is 3-0 in tournament play while Trevecca is 3-1. Trevecca will therefore have to beat Alderson Broaddus twice to secure the championship title.

2016 G-MAC Baseball Championships HOME

After three up, three down in both halves for a scoreless first inning, TNU plated the firs two runs of the game in the top of the second. KWC scored their first in the third and added another in the fourth. TNU combined for four over the fourth and fifth before adding a final run in the eighth.

Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN) started it off with a single in the second inning. He advanced to second on a Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) single and third on a SAC bunt from Clay Staton (JR/Franklin, TN). Griffin Ganick (SO/Brentwood, TN) connected for a single to drive in Shelton. Another SAC bunt, this time from Tyler Burns (SO/Tullahoma, TN), scored Tompkins. 

The Panthers produced one run on three hits in the third. 

In the fourth inning, Ganick swung a single to bring in Shelton who walked prior. Ryan Arington (JR/Cincinnati, OH) connected for a triple to drive in Tompkins, who also walked prior, and Ganick to put TNU up 5-1. 

Adam Brown knocked one out of the park to add to KWC's effort, 2-5, in the bottom of the fourth. 

Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) answered with a solo home run to increase the Trojan lead, 6-2, in the fifth.

Another Ganick single in the eighth got the Trojans a final runner. Ganick got in scoring position on a Panther error. Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) connected for a double to switch places and bring Ganick home, 7-2. 

John Bolton (JR/Nolensville, TN) (8-2) took the decision putting in seven innings of work with two strikeouts, walking one and he let two runs on 10 hits. Austin Sisk (SR/Kodak, TN) came in relief to pitch the final two innings with one strikeout, no walks and let no runs on no hits to hold the victory. 

Griffin Ganick was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI. Bryson Shelton and Zach Tompkins were both 2-4 with two runs and a walk each. 

In G-MAC tournament games the Purple and White are 13-2 all-time. 

Trevecca is 77-16 versus the Great Midwest Athletic Conference members all-time. The Trojans, four-time regular season G-MAC champions, are 69-17 in regular season G-MAC contests.
