Trevecca Softball | Trojans get 75th G-MAC win in Sweep of Ursuline

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (34-14, 18-2 G-MAC) took two in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) double header from Ursuline College (12-22, 6-12 G-MAC), 3-2 and 11-7, at UC Softball fields.

 

Trevecca is 13-0 all-time versus the Arrows. The G-MAC foes will play a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 11 AM.

 

Trevecca is 75-7 in official G-MAC regular season and postseason games. During the regular season Trevecca is 64-7 in G-MAC play. At the G-MAC postseason championship, Trevecca is 11-0.

 

Including non-conference meetings, Trevecca is 79-11 all-time versus the current members of the G-MAC conference. That total includes non-conference and postsesason meetings. Here's a breakdown of TNU's record against each of the current G-MAC schools in order of their meetings this season: Salem International (11-0), Davis & Elkins (9-1), Cedarville University (19-1), Kentucky Wesleyan (13-8), Ohio Valley (8-0), Ursuline College (13-0), Alderson Broaddus (6-1).

 

Trevecca will conclude their regular season with two double headers against Alderson Broaddus University (12-26, 6-14 G-MAC) at the Trojan Softball Complex on April 22nd (2PM) and 23rd (11AM).

 

GAME ONE RECAP

Trevecca scored a run in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead. Ansley Brantley (SR/Kite, Ga.) reached on an error and stole second. Brantley moved to third on a error by the Arrow catcher. Alex Richardson (JR/Ten Mile, Tenn.) drove her in with a single to center.

 

Ursuline pulled ahead with a two-run bottom of the first.

 

Trevecca rallied with a two-run fifth for a 3-2 lead. Brantley started the Trojan fifth by reaching in a hit-by-pitch and stealing second. Alex Richardson reached on a one-out single to right, scoring Brantley. Shelby Andrews (SR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) singled to left, scoring Richardson with the eventual winning run.

 

Trevecca had eight hits and two errors. Ursuline had seven hits and three errors.

 

Alex Richardson went 3-4 from the plate with a run scored and two RBI. Shelby Andrews was 2-4 with a RBI. Ansley Brantley was 0-3 officially at the plate, but scored two times, had two stolen bases, and reached on a hit-by-pitch.

 

Haley Fagan (SR/Cornersville, Tenn.) improved to 25-10 with a complete game seven hit, three walk, and eight strikeout performance. Fagan allowed two runs – both earned.

 

GAME TWO RECAP

Trevecca scored a run in the top of the first and again it was Ansley Brantley scoring, but this time she drove herself in with a solo home run.

 

The Arrows tied the game at 1-1 with a run in their half of the third.

 

Trevecca regained the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Caitlyn Hudgins (FR/Springfield, TN) lead off with a single and Mary Collins (FR/Collierville, TN) repeated the feat. Savannah Carr (FR/Springfield, TN) pinch ran for Collins. Jordan Griner (SR/Mulberry, Tenn.) doubled, driving in Hudgins. Kat Burbrink (SO/Hamilton, Ohio) singled to drive in Griner and Carr. 

 

UC scored a single run in the fifth for a 4-2 TNU lead.

 

Trevecca repeated their run total in the fourth with a three-run sixth inning and a 7-3 lead. Burbrink opened the Trojan frame with a single and Crumpler doubled before Brantley singled driving in both base runners. Brantley moved to third on an error and Tana Whited (FR/Lebanon, TN) scored her on a ground out.

 

The Trojan comfortable margin did not last long as the host Arrows plated two in their half of the sixth and trailed by three, 7-4, going to the seventh.

 

The Purple and White bats cranked out four runs in the seventh for an 11-4 advantage. Hudgins started the Trojans out again with a double and Griner, and out later, on base with a walk. Crumpler singled to score Hudgins. Brantley joined in with a single that scored Crumpler and Maddux Reid (FR/Bourbonnais, IL) who pinch ran for Collins. Tana Whited singled next to drive in Brantley.

 

The Arrows again made a dent into the Trevecca lead, but fell short with just three runs and succumbed to the Trojans 11-7.

 

Ansley Brantley was 3-5 with three runs scored, a home rund, and five RBI. Caitlyn Hudgins (3-4), Kaitlin Crumpler (JR/Smyrna, Tenn.) (3-4), and Kat Burbrink (3-4) all joined Brantley with a 3-hit game. Tana Whited had two hits and two RBI. Hudgins scored twice and hit a double. Burbrink scored a run and drove in two. Crumpler scored twice, had an RBI, and a double.

 

Haley Fagan pitched six innings to get the win for a 26-10 record.

 

Trevecca had 17 hits with two errors while Ursuline had 11 hits and an error.
