Trevecca Softball | Trojans Split Day, Again @ THE Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University Trojan softball team (8-10) lost its Tuesday opener, 6-4, to the University of Minnesota Duluth (7-6) at THE Spring Games at the Legends Way Ballfields, hosted by PFX Athletics. In their second game of the day the Purple and White won 8-0 in six innings after forcing the run-rule into effect against future Great Midwest Athletic Conference member Walsh University (4-7).

 

On Thursday Trevecca will play Grand Valley State University at 8 AM and Ashland University at 10 AM. Friday Trevecca concludes play with a noon game against the University of Sioux Falls and a 2 PM game against Ohio Dominican University. 

 

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH BULLDOGS RECAP

UMD scored one in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk.

 

In the fourth the Bulldogs put two on with one out with a hit and a walk. A triple followed to drive in both runners and put the Bulldogs up 3-0. A single followed driving in the runner on third for a 4-0 UDM lead through four.

 

Trevecca got on the board with three runs in the sixth. Trevecca had a two-run home run in the inning.

 

In the bottom of the sixth the Bulldogs had a runner reach on a hit-by-pitch setting the table for a two-run home run and a 6-3 Bulldog lead through six.

 

Trevecca added a run in the top of the seventh on a sac bunt, but cold catch the Bulldogs and fell 6-4.

 

Alex Richardson (JR/Ten Mile, Tenn.) was 0-1 but reached on three walks and scored a run. Shelby Andrews (SR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) was 2-4 with a stolen base and a double. Maddux Reid (FR/Bourbonnais, IL) pinch ran for Andrews and scored a run. Sammy Jo Ivy was 1-1 with a home run, three-RBI, and a run scored. Savannah Carr (FR/Springfield, TN) was 1-3 with a double and a run scored.   

 

WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS RECAP

Trevecca did not waste any time with a run in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 lead. Trevecca added a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth for an 8-0 Trojan lead, forcing the run rule into play.

 

Trevecca had four runs and an error while the Cavaliers were limited to three hits and had four errors.

 

Ansley Brantley (SR/Kite, Ga.) reached on a walk to lead off the bottom of the first. Danielle Tyson (SO/Smithville, Tenn.) reached on a bunt with the help of a Cavs error that also allowed Brantley to come all the way around to score.

 

Caitlyn Hudgins (FR/Springfield, TN) doubled to lead off the second. Kat Burbrink (SO/Hamilton, Ohio) reached on a walk an out later. With two out Ansley Brantley delivered a double to left that scored Hudgins and moved Burbrink to third. Danielle Tyson singled to left, driving in both Trojan runners for a 4-0 Trojan lead.

 

Crumpler reached on an error to open the Trojan fourth. Brantley moved Crumpler over with a sac bunt. A wild pitch advanced Crumpler to third. Tyson grounded out, scoring Crumpler for a 5-0 Trojan lead.

 

Kat Burbrink led off the Trojan sixth with a single to left. Mary Collins (FR/Collierville, TN) reached on an error. Maddux Reid came on to pinch run for Collins, who was pinch hitting for Crumpler. Brantley walked to load the bases. Tyson came up with an RBI opportunity again and delivered. This time it was a ground out, but scored Burbrink. Reid scored next on a wild pitch.

 

Ansley Brantley was 1-1 with three runs scored, a double, two walks. Brantley also had a sacrifice. Danielle Tyson was 1-4 with four RBI. Kat Burbrink was 1-2 with two runs scored and a walk. Caitlyn Hudgins had a double. Alex Richardson kept the inning alive by drawing a walk. Brantley advanced to third on a wild pitch. Shelby Andrews bunted and reached on an error that also scored Brantley, put the Trojans up by eight and ending the game.

 

Haley Fagan (SR/Cornersville, Tenn.) pitched the complete game shutout. Fagan allowed three hits and one walk and five strikeouts.
