CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University (10-12, 2-0 G-MAC) baseball team collected a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) wins at Cedarville University (3-12, 0-2 G-MAC) on Good Friday. The Trojans topped the Yellow Jackets 11-6 in the opener and won 7-6 in 11 innings in game two at Yellow Jacket Field.

Trevecca extended their winning streak to six in the series and are now 18-4 versus the Yellow Jackets in the NCAA Division II era.

The teams will play another double-header beginning at 11 AM on Saturday.

GAME ONE RECAP

Trevecca fell behind 4-0 as the Yellow Jackets scored four first-inning runs Trevecca scored two in the second and five in the third for a 9-4 lead. Trevecca added two in the fifth and led 9-4, but Cedarville scored two in their half of the fifth to make it 9-6 TNU. The Trojans scored two in the sixth for the 11-6 final.

In the five-run third Tyler Tichenor (SR/Centertown, KY) reached on a walk before Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) reached on a hit-by-pitch. Both advanced on a wild pitch. Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN) flied out to center, but scored Tichenor. Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) and Tyler Burns (SO/Tullahoma, TN) reached on back-to-back walks to load the bases with two out. Chad Sutton (SO/Independence, MO) doubled driving in all three runners. Sutton moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Ryan Arington (JR/Cincinnati, OH) single. The Trojans took a 7-4 lead and never trailed again.

Bryson Shelton was 3-3 with three runs scored, two stolen bases, two RBI, and a walk. Ryan Arington was 2-5 with three RBI and a stolen base. Chad Sutton was 2-5 with a run scored, a double, and four RBI. Tyler Burns was 2-4 with a run scored, a double, and two RBI. Zach Tompkins was 1-3 with three runs scored, and two walks.

Bryan Smith (JR/Unionville, TN) got the win and is 2-3 after pitching 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts. Mac Barnes (SO/Arlington, TN) pitched 3.1 innings to get his first save.

GAME TWO RECAP

After a scoreless first the Trojans scored two for a 2-0 lead, but gave up a run in the bottom half of the inning and another two in the third and trailed 3-2 after three innings. Both teams plated two runs in the fourth and CU led 5-4. Trevecca knotted the game at 5-5 with a run in the fifth. The game went extra innings before the Trojans scored two in the 11th. Cedarville cut the lead to one with a run of their own in the 11th, but the Trojans held on for the 7-6 win in 11 innings.

In the 11th, Carter Wiseman (SO/Hendersonville, TN) reached on a two-out double. Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) singled to left field scoring Wiseman. Harrison moved to second on a stolen base and Tyler Tichenor singled to center allowing Harrison to score what would turn out to be the game-winning run.

Ethan Harrison and Bryson Shelton each were 3-5 at the plate. Harrison added a walk and scored twice while driving in one. Shelton scored twice and had a triple. Carter Wiseman had a key double in the 11th and scored a run and also reached on a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

John Bolton (JR/Nolensville, TN) started and pitched five innings and seven strikeouts, but did not figure in the win. Christian Lohr (SO/Verona, KY) got the win (1-0) with five innings of shutout pitching. He allowed two hits and three walks, but had six strikeouts. Jake Roberson (FR/Springfield, TN) got the save.
