Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-8) defeated No. 9 University of Alabama in Huntsville (17-8) 4-3 at Jackson Field on Wednesday.

Trevecca visits Newberry (S.C.) College this weekend for a three-game series.

With the win the Trojans are now 3-7 all-time versus the Chargers. UAH won the last two meetings and the last TNU win in the series came in April of 2014.

Trevecca did not shut down Huntsville, but did limit the Charger offense that is 10th in NCAA Division II with a .347 team batting average. Trevecca held the Chargers to nine this which few have done this year. UAH has connected for 10 or more hits in 15 different games this season.

It is only the sixth time the Chargers have scored three or fewer runs and only six times have they had fewer than nine hits.

Only West Florida pitchers have struck out more Chargers in a game than the Trevecca pitchers did tonight. Trevecca sat down 13 Chargers on strikes while the West Florida pitchers collected 14 strikeouts.

Trevecca scored first with first-inning run and 1-0 lead. Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) walked and then advanced to second on a ground out. Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) reached on an error that scored Harrison from second.

In the top of the third Charger Zach Dugas reached on a bunt-single then later scored when Austin Sanders reached on an error.

The Purple and White regained the advantage with a two-run bottom of the third for a 3-1 lead. Ethan Harrison started the action when he reached with one out on a hit-by-pitch. Tyler Tichenor (SR/Centertown, KY) moved him over with a single. Micah Blount drove in Harrison with a single. Blount and Tichenor each moved up with a double-steal. Tichenor on a wild pitch to Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN).

Neither had a runner cross home plate in the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh innings.

The Chargers tied the contest in the eighth on a two-run triple by Matt Spruill.

In the eighth, Zach Tompkins hit a solo home run that proved to be the game-deciding run.

Charger reliever Brent Elder was tagged with the loss to slip to 0-1 on the season.

Ethan Harris reached three times without a hit, going 0-1 with two runs scored. He reached with a walk and two hit-by-pitch. Micah Blount was 1-4 with a stolen base, and two RBI. Zach Tompkins went 1-3 at the plate and reached on a hit-by-pitch with a run scored, an RBI, and a home run.

Jesse Peters (FR/Loveland, OH) started and did not figure into the decision, but delivered six strong innings. Peters allowed six hits and one unearned run while walking three and striking out eight Chargers.

The win goes to Jon Newman (SO/Gilbert, SC) in relief. Newman is 1-0 after going two innings and struck out the side in the seventh and ended with four strikeouts and allowed two hits and two runs. Christian Lohr (SO/Verona, KY) got his first save with an inning of work. Lohr allowed a hit and had a strikeout.
