Trevecca Softball | Trojans drop two at #24 Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - In a quick road stint, the Trevecca softball team (5-5) lost both games of a double header hosted by #24 University of Southern Indiana (4-0) on Tuesday afternoon, they lost 6-5 in game one and 9-1 in a five-ining game two. 

The Trojans return home to host the first ever Music City Invitational, February 26-28. Fellow Midwest Region teams #5 University of Indianapolis, Truman State University, Hillsdale College and Ohio Dominican University as well as Huntington University, an NAIA school, are the participating teams. The Trojans face soon-to-be fellow G-MAC members, Ohio Dominican and Hillsdale first on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Find out more about the Invitational (HERE).



GAME ONE

The Screaming Eagles plated three in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run from Hodges, pulling ahead 3-0. 

After a scoreless second, the Trojans brought in four with a pair of two-run home runs in the top of the third, taking a 4-3 lead. The first home run was off the bat of Alex Richardson (JR/Ten Mile, Tenn.) who brought in Danielle Tyson (SO/Smithville, Tenn.), who reached on an error. Shelby Andrews (SR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) reached on an error as well and was driven in by a Mary Collins (FR/Collierville, TN) home run. 


The Purple and White added one more in the top of the fourth, but USI tied it up with two in their half of the inning. The Screaming Eagles finished it off with a final run in the bottom of the sixth and held the Trojans through the top of the seventh to finish, 6-5.

 

Haley Fagan (SR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (2-3) pitched six innings for a complete game. She allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. 

 

Mary Collins hit 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI, a home run, and a walk. Danielle Tyson was 2-for-4 with one run and a stolen base. In 29 at bats, not a single Trojan struck out.

 

Both teams had seven hits. Trevecca had four errors to Southern Indiana's five.


GAME TWO
 
The Screaming Eagles started the second game off the same way they did the first, with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, 3-0.
 
After a scoreless second inning, the Trojans scored their lone run of the game in the top of the third. Kat Burbrink (SO/Hamilton, Ohio) hit a double to center field, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and came home on an Ansley Brantly sacrifice fly.  
 

Southern Indiana did irreparable damage in the bottom of the fourth with six runs, five unearned, on five hits to triple their lead and cut the game short at five innings. 

 

Kat Burbrink was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Ansley Brantley (SR/Kite, Ga.) had an RBI and a stolen base.

 

Sammie Jo Ivy (SO/Enville, Tenn. ) (2-2) pitched 3.2 innings with two strikeouts, one walk and seven runs let on seven hits. Morgan Powell (FR/Mt. Juliet, TN) came in for relief in the fourth inning. 

 

Trevecca had one run on four hits and one USI error. Southern Indiana had nine runs on nine hits and one TNU error.
