Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (3-0) opened the season with a 3-0 weekend at Jackson Field, with two wins over Maryville University St. Louis (6-5). Trevecca defeated the Saints 5-4 on Saturday.

Trevecca will play two games at Tusculum College (6-3) on Tuesday beginning at 2 PM. Trevecca will host three teams next weekend. Trevecca plays Quincy University (0-0) Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 PM. Saturday, Feb. 27 the Trojans will play Wayne State University (0-2) at 3 PM and Walsh University (0-0) at 6 PM.

The Saints opened the scoring with a run in the second and two in the third.

Trevecca put two on the board in the third when Ethan Hurt (JR/Pegram, TN) doubled to lead off the inning. Tyler Burns (SO/Tullahoma, TN) singled, moving Hurt to third and then moved to second with a stolen base and Hurt stole home. Two outs later, Griffin Ganick (SO/Brentwood, TN) singled to center field, scoring Burns.ÂÂ

Two more Trojan runs were put on the board in the fifth inning. Tyler Burns hit a solo home run with one out in the inning. With two outs Carter Wiseman (SO/Hendersonville, TN) singled and Ganick reached on an error. Chad Sutton (SO/Independence, MO) singled, scoring Wiseman.

Trevecca plated a much-needed insurance run in the eighth inning. With two out Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) and Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) each singled. Ethan Hurt drove in Tompkins.

Micah Blount, Ethan Hurt, and Tyler Burns all collected two hits against four at bats. Hurt had a double, a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Burns had two runs, an RBI, a stolen base, and a home run.

John Bolton (JR/Nolensville, TN) (1-0) won his first start of the year with five innings of work. Bolton allowed six hits, three runs – all earned, and walked one and sat town three Saints on strikes. Bolton also allowed two runners to reach on a hit-by-pitch.
