Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (2-0) opened the season with a pair of wins at Jackson Field on Friday. The Trojans defeated Maryville University St. Louis (6-3) 6-2 in the opener and finished off the day with a 11-1 win under the lights over St. Joseph's College (0-2).

Trevecca will play the Saints of Maryville-St. Louis on Saturday at 3 PM. Trevecca will play two games at Tusculum College (4-3) on Tuesday beginning at 2 PM. Trevecca will host three teams next weekend. Trevecca plays Quincy University (0-0) Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 PM. Saturday, Feb. 27 the Trojans will play Wayne State University (0-0) at 3 PM and Walsh University (0-0) at 6 PM.

GAME ONE – MARYVILLE-ST. LOUIS
The Saints scored a run in the top of the first and led 1-0 after an inning of play, but Trevecca scored at least one run in each of the next five innings for a 6-1 lead after six. The Saints tacked on a run in the ninth, a solo home run from Yoonjae Nam.

In the bottom of the second inning Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) homered for the Trojans to even the score a 1-1 after two.

In the third, Carter Wiseman (SO/Hendersonville, TN) delivered a one-out single and stole second an out later. Chad Sutton (SO/Independence, MO) walked with two out and Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN) singled to right to drive in Wiseman.

In the fourth Ethan Hurt (JR/Pegram, TN) reached on a one-out double and moved to third with a stolen base. Tyler Burns (SO/Tullahoma, TN) doubled to drive in Hurt. With two out Carter Wiseman tripled to drive in Burns.

Chad Sutton walked to lead off the fifth and stole second. He moved to third an out later on a wild pitch. Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) drove him home on a sac fly to right.

The final run came in the sixth on a solo home run off the bat of Ethan Hurt.

Carter Wiseman was 3-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, a triple, and a stolen base. Ethan Hurt was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, a double, a triple, and a stolen base.

Bryan Smith (JR/Unionville, TN) (1-0) pitched six innings for the win. Smith allowed three hits, a run (earned), a walk, and had four strikeouts. Austin Sisk (SR/Kodak, TN) got his first save with three innings of work, allowing two hits and a run. He did not allow a walk and had five strikeouts.

Trevecca had nine hits and did not commit an error.

GAME TWO – ST. JOSEPH'S
Trevecca scored three in the bottom of the first to take control of the game. Carter Wiseman walked to lead-off the inning, then moved to second on a stolen base. Griffin Ganick (SO/Brentwood, TN) followed with a singe and a RBI as Wiseman scored from second. After a Puma double-play cleared the bases, Bryson Shelton walked, Zach Tompkins reached on a hit-by-pitch, and Micah Blount walked to load the bases. Ethan Hurt made it count with a double that scored two.

In the second the Trojans added four for a 7-0 lead. With two out in the inning, Ganick reached on a hit-by-pitch and Chad Sutton singled. Bryson Shelton drove both runners in with a double. Zach Tompkins followed with a triple to score Shelton, then scored on a wild pitch.

In the fourth the Pumas plated one and the Trojans added two more for a 9-1 Trojan lead. Trevecca added two in the fifth for the 11-1 final.

Ivey Starling (SR/Brentwood, TN) (1-0) picked up the win with five innings of work. Starling allowed just two hits and one run (earned) and had eight strikeouts. Mac Barnes (SO/Arlington, TN) and Jesse Peter both worked two innings in relief.

Griffin Ganick and Chad Sutton were 3-for-5 as the #2 and #3 hitters in the lineup. Ganick had two runs scored, reached on a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base, and an RBI. Sutton had a run scored and two RBI. Zach Tompkins was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, reached on a hit-by-pitch, a double, and an RBI. Tyler Burns went 4-for-5 with a run scored, two doubles, and an RBI. Ethan Hurt was 2-for-4 with a run scored, a walk, a double, a triple, and two RBI.
