Men's Basketball | McKendree Earns Season Split with Trevecca

LEBANON, Ill. – For the fifth year in a row the Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team played a home-and-home non-conference series with McKendree University. The final meeting this season came in a 92-70 Bearcat win on Saturday night at McKendree. The teams split the season series for the fifth year in a row, but for the first time since 2012 the teams won on their own home floor. For the last three seasons the visitor came away with the win in all six meetings.

Trojans and Bearcats all-time series tied 5-5

Trevecca's three-game win streak at Statham Sports Center is broken.

Trevecca won first meeting this season, 74-70 in overtime, in Nashville, breaking the Bearcats three-game win streak at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

 

GAME CHRONICLE

Bearcat Michael Jackson hit his first five shots and Nolan Gerling hit his first four shots to pace a 27-12 McKendree advantage with 10:37 left in the first half.

Trevecca cut the McK lead to nine (29-20) with 8:14 left on a Percy Blade (SR/Louisville, KY) three.

Donovan Donaldson (SO/Nashville, TN) connected on his first four shots.

By the halftime buzzer the Trojans cut the Bearcats lead to seven (42-35).

Donovan Donaldson scored 14 first half points.

Percy Blade scored 10 first half points.

With 13:42 left in the game the Bearcat lead was 14 (60-46).

Trevecca cut the McKendree lead to eight (66-58) with 11:20 left.

McKendree gathered steam from there and eventually built a 24-point lead (92-68)

Nolan Gerling scored 20 and collected a game-high 14 rebounds, his second double-double against TNU this year, scored 33 with 22 rebounds in first meeting

 

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca hosts nationally-ranked University of Alabama Huntsville (5-1, 1-0 GSC) on Monday in a Finals Week Matinee beginning at 5 PM. The Trojans and No. 9 Chargers men's series is tied at 8-8 all-time.

The Trojan and Charger women will start the double-header action at 3 PM. The TNU women lead the series 4-1 all-time.

 

Trevecca will recognize the 2008 Trojan women's basketball team during the double header. The 2008 team reached the NAIA National Title game and finished as the runner-up, still the highest finish for any Trevecca program.

 

Jenny Beth Willis, of the Trevecca singing group Redeemed and a former contestant on American Idol, will perform the Star Spangled Banner before each of the games.
