Volleyball | Lee Flames Rally Past Trevecca Trojans; G-MAC Next

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (16-12) slipped outside of Great Midwest Conference (G-MAC) play for a final tune-up on Tuesday night at Lee University (14-13), losing 3-2 at the Flames Paul Dana Walker Arena. The 2016 G-MAC Championships are next for the Trojans, who are the defending G-MAC Champions.

Trevecca hit for .210 (17 kills, 4 errors, 62 attacks) while taking the first set 25-18. Lee led 9-6 when Trevecca rolled off a 9-1 run for a 15-10 advantage. Ashleigh Lozier (JR/Murfreesboro, TN) served the Trojans to five straight points in the run.

 

The Flames evened the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Lee cruised to a 8-3 lead early and trailed 20-13 late. Trevecca chipped way at the lead outscoring Lee 9-5 down the stretch, but ran out of time to complete the rally.

 

In the third set Trevecca blasted a .405 (19 kills, 2 errors, 42 attacks) and a 25-18 win. Trevecca scored the first four points and led 8-2 and 16-8. Lee cut the Trojan lead to four (16-12), but Trevecca steadied the set for the win.

 

The Flames forced a fifth and deciding set with a 25-22 fourth set victory. Both teams had runs in the set and it remained close, but the despite tying the match twice the Trojans were not able to take the lead from the Flames. The match was tied 5-5 and then 20-20.

 

Lee jumped to a 9-3 lead in the fifth set and held off a Trojan for a 15-9 victory. Trevecca hit just .043 (8 k, 7 e, 23 a) in the fifth.

 

Trevecca was led by Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) with 25 kills and a .226 attack percentage. Atkinson added 25 digs and two assists for a total of 26 points in the match. Clare Taylor (SO/Milan, TN) contributed a double-double with 12 kills and 20 digs, while Hanna Matthews (FR/Ooltewah, TN) set up the offense with 53 assists. Alex Reuter (SO/Brentwood, TN) also hit double digits in kills with 14 and a .414 attack percentage. Ashleigh Lozier added 15 digs. Claire Reinthaler (JR/Heyworth, IL) added 9.5 points with eight kills, three digs, and three blocks.
