Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Sweep Panthers in Fieldhouse Finale for Katelyn Atkinson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (16-11, 8-2 G-MAC) won on senior night in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) home game against Kentucky Wesleyan College (10-14, 4-6 G-MAC). The Trojans won in three sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-23, sweeping the Panthers for the second time this season. 

 

Trevecca goes on the road to Cleveland, TN for the final match of the regular season against Lee University (12-13, 8-9 GSC) on Tuesday. Lee owns a 17-1 advantage in the last 18 meetings in the series. Trevecca ended the Flames win-streak in the series with a win in 2014, but the Flames beat the Trojans twice in Cleveland, TN last year.

 

The Trojans looked good winning a hard-fought first set 25-22. Trevecca appeared to be in control to start the set as the Trojans started with a 5-0 run. The Panthers tied the match at 19-19 then at 22-22. The Trojans scored three points in a row to take the set 25-22.

 

The Trojans own the advantage in the series 7-6, winning for the fifth time in the series.

 

The Trojans went on another 5-0 run after the second set was tied 4-4 to make the score 9-4. The Trojans and Panthers remained close the rest of the set, but the Trojans ended the set on a 3-0 run to take the set 25-17. The eight-point final margin was the largest lead of the night for either team. 

 

The Panthers led 5-2 lead in the third set. The Trojans rallied for a 10-8 advantage. The Panthers tied the match a couple of more times and took a 19-17 lead late. Trevecca caught the Panthers and edged them 25-23.

 

Trevecca hit .140% (37 kills, 20 errors, 121 attacks) and Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) led the attack with a .314 attack percentage (17, 6, 35). Atkinson turned in a double-double with 12 digs in her final appearance at the Trojan Fieldhouse. Atkinson added three assists and two service aces.
