Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Top Cedarville Yellow Jackets; Sixth Win in a Row

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (11-6, 4-0 G-MAC) defeated visiting Cedarville University (11-4, 1-1 G-MAC) at the Trojan Fieldhouse 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 28-26) in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) battle.

Trevecca visits Kentucky Wesleyan College (7-8, 2-2 G-MAC) for another G-MAC matchup at 7 PM on Tuesday at the Panthers Jones Gymnasium. Trevecca is 5-6 all-time versus the Panthers, but have come out on top in each of the last three meetings.

 

With the win today the Trojans are on a six-match win streak. Trevecca is 4-8 now all-time versus the Yellow Jackets, having won the last two in the series. Trevecca visits Cedarville on October 28th at 6 PM. It is the first time Cedarville has been swept in a regular season G-MAC match. Trevecca also swept Cedarville in the last meeting in the G-MAC Championship match last year.

 

Clare Taylor (SO/Milan, TN) capped off a monster week with 15 kills, three assists, eight digs, and two blocks. Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) tallied 11 kills and 17 digs. Claire Reinthaler (JR/Heyworth, IL) collected four blocks and two service aces. Janessa Hodge (SO/Nashville, MI) had eight kills. Hanna Matthew dished out 31 assists with six digs and two blocks. Alex Reuter (SO/Brentwood, TN) had nine kills. Miranda Bingham (JR/Safford, AZ) had 13 digs, four assists, and two service aces.

 

For the week Taylor averaged 4.2 kills and 3.1 digs per set. She had a .217 attack percentage during the 3-0 week for the Trojans. She had 42 kills, nine assists, six service aces, 31 digs, and six blocks. Against Ohio Valley she had a double double with 18 kills and 16 digs. Against the Scots she added six assists, four service aces, and three blocks.

 

As a team Trevecca hit for .205 on the attack with a .225 attack percentage in the first set.

 

Trevecca led the entire first set and scored the first point of all three sets. Trevecca led 5-0 to start the match and never let the Yellow Jackets catch them in the first set. Trevecca built a 12-4 lead, but were not finished. Wit the score 14-8, Trevecca scored four straight for a 10 point lead at 18-8. Trevecca led by 10 again at 23-13.

 

In the second set Trevecca jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the match at 4-3 with a 4-0 run. The set remained tight until the Trojans turned a 9-7 lead into a 17-10 advantage with a 8-3 run. Trevecca went on to lead by as many as eight twice (20-12, 24-16) before taking the set 25-17.

 

The third set was the tightest with six ties and four lead changes. Trevecca built a 6-2 lead early and held that lead until Cedarville took their first lead of the set at 17-16. Cedarville never held more than a two-point advantage. Cedarville led 21-19, but Trevecca nearly ran the table to end the set and the match. An attack error on CU gave the Trojans the serve and Miranda Bingham served TNU to five straight points including three kills by Clare Taylor. Bingham served for set and match point, but Cedarville got the side out and rallied to take a 25-24 lead and had a serve for set point. Clare Taylor produced a kill and Trevecca again had a match and set point at 26-5, but the Yellow Jackets extended the set and the match again with a 26-26 tie. Katelyn Atkinson turned the tied again with a kill and Ashleigh Lozier (JR/Murfreesboro, TN) served the Trojans to a set and match win at 28-26.
