Trevecca Softball | UIndy Rallies over Trojans in Extras at NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (38-9) lost 3-1 to the University of Indianapolis at Greyhounds Baumgartner Field in game one of the 2015 NCAA Division II Midwest Region 2 tournament.

Trevecca will play again in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday in Game 4 at 11:30 am (CT) against Truman State University (33-15) who lost to Ashland University (39-8) 5-4 in Friday's second game.

Before TNU/TSU play, UIndy and Ashland will play Game 3 at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning (Watch UIndy / Ashland). The loser of Game 3 will play the winner of Game 4 (TNU/TSU) in what will be Game 5 at 2 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.

 

The winner of Game 5 will play the winner of Game 3 in Sunday's Championship round.

 

Trevecca started the game with an unearned run in the top of the first. Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) led off the game by reaching on a bunt that prompted an error by Hound third baseman Katie Kelly. An out later, Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) reached on a fielder's choice that failed to force out Tyson at second. A wild pitch moved both runners up with two outs. Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) drove in Tyson with a single on a 2-2 pitch.

 

Trevecca held the 1-0 lead until Indianapolis scored a run in the fourth. With one out Natalie Lalich doubled to left on the first pitch. Crystal Rains came on to pinch run. Jenny Thompson doubled to drive in Rains, evening the score at 1-1.

 

The game went to extra innings after both teams failed to score in the final three innings of regulation play.

 

In the eighth Casey Williamson doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. An out later, Lalich homered to left for the game winning runs and a 3-1 UIndy win.

 

UIndy had a total of eight hits off of Trevecca starter Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (21-5) and drew two walks from Fagan. Fagan sat down five on strikes. The Hounds aided TNU with two errors. Morgan Foley (34-7), the winning UIndy pitcher, limited Trevecca to two hits and issued one walk. Morgan had 13 strikeouts against Trevecca.

 

Aside from the Kemp hit, Fagan also reached safely on a hit. Kemp added a stolen base and the RBI.
