Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (40-10) season came to an end with a 4-3 loss vs the University of Indianapolis (45-12) in the 2015 NCAA Division II Midwest Region No. 2 Finals at UIndy's Baumgartner Field on Sunday.
The loss ends what proved sixth 40-win season for the Trojan softball program, the first in Trevecca's NCAA Division II era. Trevecca is now 1-2 all-time against the Hounds.
The UIndy GreyHounds interrupted a 0-0 game with a three-run home run off the bat of Natalie Lalich in the bottom of the third inning. After two were away in the inning, Casey Williamson walked on four pitches and Taylor Russell reached on a hit-by-pitch on a 1-1 pitch. Lalich added the salt with a three-run home run on a 3-2 pitch from TNU starter Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.).
Trevecca bounced back quickly in the top of the fourth as Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) led off by drawing a five-pitch walk. Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) reached on a fielding error that moved Kemp to second. Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.) got her first of three hits in the next at bat, driving in Kemp.
After Kemp scored the Trojans loaded the bases with just one out, but left them full.
Trevecca came right back in the top of the fifth for more damage to the Hounds. Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) reached on a one out error by the short stop. Kelsey Kemp singled right, moving Tyson to third and moving up herself to second on the throw back in to third. Lindsey Stephens singled to center field, scoring Tyson and Kemp and tying the game at 3-3.
Mackenzie Leding singled in the next at bat, but Stephens was gunned down trying to reach third for the first out in the inning.
Rains came and delayed the game and when play resumed, the Trojans were unable to capitalize and left two more runners on base.
In the bottom of the sixth the Hounds Katie Kelly doubled with one away. Then with two out Sydney Russell singled, scoring Kelly from second, putting the Hounds up again, 4-3.
