Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (28-15, 17-1 G-MAC) defeated Cedarville University (17-20, 9-9 G-MAC) 4-2 and 6-5 (11 innings) at Jackson Field on Friday.

The Trojans are winners in 19 of their last 23 games and will host Cedarville for a pair of games on Saturday, weather permitting, at Noon. Senior Day activities will take place at the start of the game. GAME ONE
Cedarville broke the scoreless tied with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Trevecca cashed in a run in the bottom of the third and tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the fourth. The winning edge came in the Trojan half of the sixth when the Trojans plated two more runs for a 4-2 victory.
The Yellow Jackets produced eight hits, but the Trojans left 13 runners on base during the game. In addition to seven hits, the Trojans benefited from drawing a total of 10 walks and one hit-by-pitch from CU pitchers.
Michael Purcell battled to the win and is now 6-1 on the year. Purcell went the distance and allowed just eight hits and did not walk a batter. Purcell did hit two Yellow Jackets, but also sat down seven on strikes. Purcell, despite possibly not having his best stuff, threw 111 pitches with 75 of those were strikes.
Chad Sutton (FR/Independence, Mo.) singled to lead off the third and moved to second on a stolen base. Clayton Nichols singled, scoring Sutton for the Trojans first run.
Zach Tompkins (JR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) walked with one out in the Trojan fourth. Sutton and Nichols walked to load the bases. Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) drove in Tomkins when he reached on a fielders choice.
In the sixth, Sutton was key in the Trojans rally for the lead. He walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. Nichols reached agin, this tome on a hit-by-pitch. An out later, Carter Wiseman (FR/Hendersonville, Tenn.) doubled, scoring Sutton. Hunter Newman (JR/Chapmansboro, Tenn.) singled on a 1-2 pitch, driving in Nichols for the final run of the game.
GAME TWO
Cedarville kept ahead again in game two, scoring two in the second and another two in the fourth. Trevecca put a run across in the fifth and then tied the game in the sixth with a four-run inning. The game, scheduled for seven innings, eventually lasted nearly 11 full innings. Trevecca scored the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the 11th.
Austin Sisk (JR/Kodak, Tenn. ) pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just two hits, no walks, with six strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Marshall Johnson singled for CU in the second with one out. With two out, Jaden Cleland tripled to the corner in right, scoring Johnson. Cleland scored as the throw to third sailed and CU led 2-0.
In the Cedarville fourth, Cleland was key again. After Potter singled, Cleland homered to drive in two more runs and put the Yellow Jackets up 4-0.
Trevecca scored a run in the fifth when Zach Tomkins led off the inning with a walk. Sutton drew a walk as well with one out. Tyler Tichenor singled to right, scoring Tompkins.
CU's Zach Huskey reached on a wild pitch after striking out to lead off the sixth. Sam Summerlin reached on a throwing error. Drew Johnson singled, scoring Huskey for a 5-1 CU lead.
The game was teetering for the Trojans, but again it was a big defensive play that may have saved the game. ÂÂ
With two on, Harrison Martin singled to right field where Chad Sutton fielded the ball and fired it home to Zach Tompkins who turned and tagged a sliding Sam Summerlin for the final out of the inning and keeping the run off the board.
The Trojan sixth started with Hunter Newman connecting for his league-leading 18th home run. An out later, Ethan Hurt (SO/Pegram, Tenn.) singled and stole second. Tompkins walked and Micah Blount (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) singled to score Hurt. Sutton singled and moved to secon don an erro, scoring Tompkins and Blount to tie the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the 11th Clayton Nichols doubled and moved to third on a Tyler Tichenor SAC bunt. Carter Wiseman flew out to left on a SAC fly, scoring Nichols from third to give the Trojans the win.
