Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (27-8) had resounding end to a great run this season, falling to Union University (33-27) in back-to-back shutouts, 1-0 and 6-0.
ÂÂ
Including today, Trevecca will play on five consecutive days next week; the first three days are scheduled for the Trojan Softball Complex. Christian Brothers University (9-37, 2-24 GSC) will visit on Wednesday at 1 p.m., and Davis & Elkins College (18-15, 11-4 G-MAC) for a single game at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Trevecca will conclude the week with a four games series, two Friday at 1 p.m. and two Saturday at 10 a.m., at Salem International University (11-24, 5-12 G-MAC).ÂÂ
ÂÂ
The Trojans had not lost two in a row all season. They had won 23 of their last 25 and 17 of their last 18.
ÂÂ
Interesting enough, the last time the Trojans were shutout was against Union just over a year ago (4/9/14) in a 1-0 loss. The Union pitcher that day, you guessed it, it was Kelly Robey, the same hurler who pitched the two shutouts against the Trojans today. In game two last year, the Trojans managed to beat Union and Robey 2-1.
ÂÂ
The last time Trevecca lost two in a row was at the Gulf Coast Invitational, when they lost to William Carey University 5-2 (3/7/14) and Morningside College 6-3 (3/8/14).
ÂÂ
GAME ONE
In game one, Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (15-4) took the loss despite another great pitching performance. Fagan allowed just four hits and one run while walking just two and striking out eight.
ÂÂ
Kelly Robey pitched a one-hitter though in response and walked just two while striking out five.
ÂÂ
Robey and the Bulldogs got the only run they would need when Reagan Schrader belted a solo home run in the third.
ÂÂ
The only hit of the game for Trevecca came off the bat of Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) on an infield hit. Tyson had a stolen base and moved to third, but was left there without scoring.
ÂÂ
GAME TWO
Union's Robey (27-20) was nearly as impressive in game two, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out seven Trojans. Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) (7-4) took the loss in the circle for the Trojans. Stephens allowed seven hits and five runs - four earned.
ÂÂ
Union scored the only run they would need in the third, on a solo home run by lead-off hitter Emily Bennett. Union added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
ÂÂ
Union tallied 10 hit and benefited from two Trevecca errors.
