Trevecca Softball | Trojans Take Two From Christian Brothers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University Softball team (29-8) got back to their winning ways with a 3-2 win in game one against Christian Brothers University (9-39) at the Trojan Softball Complex on Wednesday.

 

Davis & Elkins College (19-16, 11-4 G-MAC) will visit for a single game at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Trevecca will conclude the week with a four-game series, two Friday at 1 p.m. and two Saturday at 10 a.m., at Salem International University (12-25, 6-12 G-MAC).

 

GAME ONE

Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (16-4) picked up the win with six innings of work and Sammie Jo Ivy (FR/Enville, Tenn. ) notched her second save by working the seventh.

 

Fagan allowed just three hits and walked four, but had five strikeouts of Buc batters.

 

CBU tallied a run in the top of the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Trevecca answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, then got the got the needed two runs in the fifth. CBU challenged the Trojans in the seventh with a run and had the tying run on base, but Ivy shut the threat down for the save.

 

Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, a double, a home run, a walk, and a RBI.

 

In the fourth, Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) delivered a two-out single with a bunt and then stole second. Alex Richardson (SO/Ten Mile, Tenn.) doubled to left center to drive in Tyson for the Trojans first run.

 

In the fifth, Ansley Brantley hit a solo home run with one out to put the Trojans up 2-1.

 

With two out Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) singled to center. Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.) followed with a double down the left field line, scoring Stephens for what would prove to be the winning run.

 

Trevecca has a total of seven hits the game and played errorless ball.

 

GAME TWO

Christian Brothers scored two in the third for a 2-0 lead. Trevecca cut it in half with a run in the bottom of the third. Trevecca blew the game open with a four-run fourth. CBU added a single run in the sixth.

 

Ansley Brantley hit her team leading 13th home run while Mackenzie Leding hit her fifth.

 

Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) (4-0) picked up the win with five innings of work. Lindsey Stephens pitched the sixth and Sammie Jo Ivy pitched the seventh for her third save of the year and second of the day. Kemp allowed four this and two runs with five walks while striking out two.

 

In the third Ansley Brantley hit a one-out solo home run to cut the CBU 2-0 lead in half.

 

In the two-run Trojan fourth, Mackenzie Leding led off the inning with a solo blast, to tie the game at 2-2.  With two away Alex Richardson singled to left and Kat Burbrink (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) doubled. Brantley walked to load the bases before Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.) doubled down the left field line for three RBI and a 5-2 TNU lead.
