Trevecca Softball | Trojans Sweep KWC; Visit 2nd Place D&E Friday

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Trevecca Nazarene University softball teamn (25-6, 14-1 G-MAC) took two from host Kentucky Wesleyan College (18-9, 9-2 G-MAC) at Foster Field on Wednesday, winning game one 7-0 and game two 9-1 at Foster Field. Game two was shortened to just six innings due to the 8-run rule.

Trevecca will visit the second place Davis & Elkins (16-13, 9-2 G-MAC) Senators over the weekend. D&E is just a game behind the Trojans in the loss column in the G-MAC standings. The top-two G-MAC teams are scheduled to play two Friday and Saturday, with each day's double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Trevecca wins the season series 3-1 and leads the all-time series 9-7. The Trojans have won 15 of their last 16 and 21 of their last 23.

Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (15-3) started and won both games of the double header. In game one Fagan pitched six innings giving upo just two hits and four walks whil striking out 10 Panthers.

Fagan was nearly as effective in game two, pitching five innings and allowing just three hits, three walks, and one run. She had another five strikeouts.

In the two games Fagan pitched 11 innings allowing a single run, five hits, seven walks, and had 15 strikeouts.  

GAME ONE
Trevecca jumped out early with a three-run top of the first. Trevecca added single runs in the third and sixth. Trevecca talled 13 hits and had an error. Sammie Jo Ivy (FR/Enville, Tenn. ) pitched the seventh and allowed just one hit.

Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.), Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.), and Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) all were 3-for-4. Alexander had a double while Mackenzie Leding had three doubles and now has eight on the year.   

In the top of the first, Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the game. Alexander singled. Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) used a sac bunt to advance the runners. Leding doubled, driving in Brantley and Alexander. Stphens singled, scoring Leding. The three runs proved to be enough for Fagan and Ivy.  

GAME TWO
Kentucky Wesleyan scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the first on a solo home run from Ovelgoener. Ansley Brantley, kelsey Kemp, and Lindsey Stephens all were 2-for-4 at the plate. Stephens hit her 10th home run while Stephens hit her 11th double and third triple of the year.

Trevecca put up all the runs they would need in the top of the second with a four-run inning. Trevecca added three in the fifth and two in the sixth. Trevecca had 12 hits and no errors.

In the second, Lindsey Stephens opened the fireworks with a lead-off triple. Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) singled, scoring Stephens. A sac bunt by Kat Burbrink (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) moved Tyson over before Fagain singled to drive in Tyson. An out later Ansley Brantley connected on her 10th home run, a two-run blast that put the Trojans up 4-1.
