Trevecca Softball | Sweep Cedarville for 12th in a Row

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University Softball team (22-5, 12-0 G-MAC) defeated Cedarville University (19-17, 7-4 G-MAC) by the score of 4-0 in game one of their scheduled doubleheader on Saturday at the Trojan Softball Complex. Game two also went the way of the Trojans, by the score of 10-5. Game one counts in the conference standings while game two is a non-conference tilt.

 

Trevecca will host Kentucky Wesleyan College (14-6, 6-0 G-MAC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a pair of games, then visit KWC on Wednesday for two more games starting at 1 p.m.

 

The Trojans have a 12 game win streak and are 18-1 over their last 19 games. Trevecca is 14-1 all-time versus CU, Trevecca won the first 10 meetings in the series. Cedarville took their first in the series in the final regular season meeting last spring. Trevecca has been the winner in the last four meetings.

 

Trevecca celebrated Senior Day today for Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.), Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.), and Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.). The three have combined to lead Trevecca to a 125-44-1 record so far. They are 65-14 at the Trojan Softball Complex and more impressively, they have a 59-12-1 record in conference play. They look to add to their 14-4 postseason record later in the season. They are 8-0 in G-MAC Tournament play. They are the first senior class with a chance to advance to an NCAA regional. They will have to earn it as an at large selection, as the G-MAC will not have a automatic bid until the 2016 season.

 

GAME ONE

The crucial point of game one was in the third when Trevecca scored three times for a 3-0 lead. Trevecca added one more run in the fourth. Trevecca had just four hits and an error while Cedarville had five hits, but three errors.

 

The big hit came off the bat of senior Mackenzie Leding. The first baseman connected on a bases loaded double that scored all three Trojans on base.

 

Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) (12-2) made it stand up with a complete game shutout. Fagan allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out six.

 

The Trojan run in the fourth started with Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) reaching on a bunt single. She later scored on a SAC fly to center off the bat of Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.).

 

Fagan had two complete games on the week and a save.

 

GAME TWO

Cedarville got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, but Trevecca gained the advantage with two in the bottom half of the first. Trevecca added two in the second and one in the third for a 5-1 lead. Cedarville tied the game with a Nicole Davis grand slam in the fourth and the Trojans pulled ahead again with a single run in the fourth. Trevecca tacked on four more runs in the sixth for the final score of 10-5.

 

Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) hit her ninth home run of the year and added three runs score and three RBI. Brantley also added her ninth stolen base. Bailey Alexander went yard as well, going 4-for-4 with her fourth home run of the year and two runs and two RBI. Lindsey Stephens also hit her fourth home run and was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Stephens also had a double.  

 

Kelsey Kemp started and pitched four innings. Sammie Jo Ivy (FR/Enville, Tenn. ) came on in relief and earned the win, she is now 2-0 on the year.

 

As a team the Trojans tallied 16 hits and had one error.  Cedarville collected 13 hits.

 

The game-winning run came in the fourth. Ansley Brantley singled and advanced to second on the throw. Bailey Alexander singled and then Kelsey Kemp walked to load the bases. Mackenzie Leding flied out to left and Brantley scored after tagging up at third. Alexander was later ruled to have left early and was called out for the third out of the inning, but Brantley's run counted.
