Box Score 2 NASHVILLE. Tenn.- The Trevecca softball team (6-4) took two rainy wins in their double header versus Malone University (0-2) on Saturday, March 14. Both games were won via the eight-run rule with identical scores of 11-3. The first game was shortened to six innings while the second was called after five.
The Trojans will be back in action with their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference games of the year on Friday when they host Alderson Broaddus University (5-1) in a pair of double headers Friday (2 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.), March 20-21.
GAME ONE
Malone scored one run in the first off of one hit and one Trevecca error.
Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) scored the first run for Trevecca after reaching on a hit by a pitch. Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.) hit a double advancing Brantley to third and she scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.
Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) connected on a double to drive Alexander in. A rundown between first and second gave Kemp enough time to get home, giving Trevecca a 3-1 lead.
The Trojans added three more in the third inning for a 6-1 advantage. Ansley Brantley led off the third with a solo homerun. Kelsey Kemp connected for a two-run homerun, scoring Alexander who walked ahead of the hit.
MU scored two unanswered runs, in the fourth and sixth, before TNU scored five more to finish the game in six innings, 11-3.
Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.) led off the fifth innning with a solo home run.
In the sixth inning, Brantley hit her second homerun of the game, this time a two RBI blast, scoring Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) who walked ahead of the hit.
Kemp the delievered a two-run walk off homerun in the sixth, scoring Alexander who hit a single ahead of the homerun.
Haley Fagan, who pitched all six innings for Trevecca, took the win (4-1). Julie Ward pitched three innings and took the loss (0-1). Fagan had six strikeouts, walked two, and allowed the three runs on seven hits.
Ansley Brantley and Kelsey Kemp both were two-for-three with two homeruns and three runs scored each. Kemp had five RBI, Brantley three. Mackenzie Leding also hit two-for-three with a homerun.
GAME TWO
Bailey Alexander collected the first hit of the game, a beautiful bunt that moved Brantley, who walked ahead of the bunt, to second. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A sac fly from Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) scored Brantley to put the Trojans up 1-0.
Malone scored two off of two hits and three TNU errors in the top of the second, but Trevecca tied the game with two hits in the bottom of the second for a 2-2 tie after two. Alex Richardson (SO/Ten Mile, Tenn.) hit a single to left center, advanced on a passed ball and scored on an Ansley Brantley double.
In the third, Trevecca scored six runs for a 8-2 advantage.
Kemp started it off with a double and then stole third. Leding hit a homerun, bringing Kemp in as well. Stephens took first on an error and moved to scoring position by stealing second. Stephens moved to second on a single from Richardson and later scored on a wild pitch. Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) walked before a Kaitlin Crumpler (SO/Smyrna, Tenn.) three-run homerun.
MU added one more run before TNU's three-run fifth for a 11-3 Trojan sweep.
Shelby Andrews (JR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) hit a single, stole second, and scored on a Brantley double. Bailey Alexander hit a single down the left line to score Brantley and end the game.
Lindsey Stephens (1-3) pitched all five innings for the win with five strikeouts and allowed three runs on two walks and six hits. Kari Hall took the loss (0-1).
Ansley Brantley was two-for-three, both doubles, with three RBI and two runs scored. Kaitlin Crumpler and Mackenzie Leding both had homeruns. Alex Richardson hit two-for-two with two runs.
The Pioneers had six hits and two errors to the Trojan's 10 hits and four errors.
