NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite the rain, Trevecca Baseball (8-8) snuck in a full seven-inning game of a scheduled double header versus Hillsdale College (3-9) on Friday, March 13. The Trojans took the win in game one 8-1, and were up 5-4 before rain brought play to a stop in the second game. Game two was completed on Saturday, March 14. The Trojans stretched out their lead to take the second win, 14-5.

GAME ONE - Watch Replay

Michael Purcell (SR/New Johnsonville, Tenn.) pitched three strikeouts to start the game and send the Trojans up to bat. Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) hit a double to right field to mark the first hit of the game. Hunter Newman (JR/Chapmansboro, Tenn.) followed suit with a double down the right field line and Tichenor scored. Newman came in off a Nick Kristinus (FR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) single. TNU finished the inning up, 2-0.

No more runs from either team, heading into the bottom of the fourth, Hunter Newman connected for his second double of the game. He would advance to third on a ground out and sneak in on a wild pitch to add one more for Trevecca, 3-0.

In the fifth inning Hillsdale marked their only run of the game. Alex Walts got a free pass to first base, advanced to third off a Sean Bennett double and scored off a ground out from Jared Piper. Trevecca led 3-1.

Trevecca earned five more runs in the sixth and held the Chargers in the seventh to finish 8-1.

Tichenor led off with a double. Newman walked on, advancing Tichenor to second and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A single from Kristinus scored both Tichenor and Newman.

Bryson Shelton (SO/Powell, Tenn. ) hit a single to center field and he'd steal second, leaving Kristinus on third. Kristinus scored on a wild pitch. Shelton and Ethan Hurt (SO/Pegram, Tenn.), who walked ahead, scored on a Zach Tompkins (JR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) single.

Michael Purcell pitched all seven innings and took the win (2-0) while Ethan Wiskur received the loss (0-1). Purcell pitched all seven innings with 10 strikeouts, three walks and only let one run and four hits.

Hunter Newman was 2-for-2, both hits doubles, with three runs and one RBI. Tyler Tichenor was 2-for-3, both doubles as well, with two runs. Nick Kristinus was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, one run.

GAME TWO - Watch Replay

Both teams scored a pair of runs in their half of the first inning. Hillsdale put two on the board in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Trevecca scored three in their half of the third to be up, 5-4.

TNU combined for six more in the fourth and sixth. With a double from Bryson Shelton, a 2 RBI single from Chad Sutton (FR/Independence, Mo.), a 2 RBI homerun from Zach Tompkins, a RBI single from Hunter Newman and RBI double from Hurt, Shelton, Hurt, Sutton, Tompkins, Reed and Shelton (6th) scored.

Ethan Wiskur had a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out in the seventh for Hillsdale.

Austin Sisk (JR/Kodak, Tenn. ) took the win (3-0) for Trevecca and McDonald took the loss (0-2). Sisk pitched 3.2 innings with three strikeouts, two walks and let one run on four hits. John Bolton (SO/Nolensville, Tenn.) pitched three innings for the Trojans with four strikeouts, one walk and let four runs on five hits.

Hunter Newman was two-for-three with three RBI and two runs. Zach Tompkins was also two-for-three with two RBI and one run. Both had a homerun.

TNU scored 14 runs on 13 hits while HC had five runs on nine hits. Hillsdale had the only error of the game.
