Trevecca Softball | Split Saturday Games at UAB Chill Out

Huntsville, Ala. - The Trevecca softball team (2-2, 0-0 G-MAC) resumed tournament play on Saturday, February 7 facing Miles College (0-4, 0-0 SIAC) at the Charger ChillOut hosted by University of Alabama-Hunstville and finished it in five innings, 8-0. The Trojans played the last game of this tournament series at 2 p.m. against West Georgia (1-3, 0-0 GSC) and took a loss, 1-7.

 

They head to Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday, February 11 to play a double header starting at 12 p.m. CST. Then Trojans will open their season at home on Monday, February 11 against Nova Southeastern University (3-1, 0-0 SSC) starting at 1 p.m.

 

GAME ONE

In the first inning, Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) shot a grounder to the short stop that would draw an error and get her on first base. Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) batted next and connected for a double to bring Kemp home. The Trojans finished the inning  one run off one hit with one error from the Goldenbears and left one on base.

 

Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) stepped up in the third inning and hit a single down center field, which Kemp followed with single out to left field. Brantley and Kemp would both steal putting Brantley in scoring position. A collision in left center field off a hit from Stephens would bring Stephens out to third bringing Brantley and Kemp both in. A sacrifice fly from Alex Richardson (SO/Ten Mile, Tenn.) would bring Stephens in and put the Trojans up 4-0.

 

The Trojans would finish it out in the fourth inning with singles from Jordan Griner (JR/Mulberry, Tenn.) and Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.) to get on base, then back to back doubles from Brantley and Kemp. With Kemp on second, Stephens put out a sacrifice fly to line it up and Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.) would draw an error at second base to bring Kemp home.

 

Three up and three down, Trevecca would hold Miles to get the win with the eight run in five innings rule.

 

Trojans scored eight runs on eight hits with zero errors to Miles three.

 

GAME TWO

Ansley Brantley led off swinging and nailed a triple down the left field line to start the game off for the Trojans. Lindsey Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to bring Brantley in, the Trojans scoring the first run of the game.


The game saw action again in the third and fifth innings with West Georgia bringing in four total runs, two in each of those innings to put them up 4-1. Three up and three down in the top of the sixth fired the Wolves up to earn three runs off three hits and one Trojan error leaving three on base to finish up the sixth inning, West Georgia 7, Trevecca 1.


Trevecca fought back in the top of the seventh with a single from Mackenzie Leding to left field followed by a single from Kat Burbrink but it wasn't enough for the Trojans to catch up.


Trevecca finished with one run on four hits and three errors to West Georgia seven runs on nine hits and zero errors.
