Trevecca Men's Basketball | First-Place Alderson-Broaddus Rallies Past Trojans

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Trevecca (10-14, 6-6 G-MAC) dropped a tough on the road, 73-62, at conference leader Alderson Broaddus University (19-7, 10-3 G-MAC). Byron Sanford (JR/Louisville, KY) had 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and a steal for Trevecca.

 

Trevecca returns to Nashville for its final two regular season games, Thursday at 8 p.m. versus Ohio Valley University (9-12, 6-5 G-MAC) and Saturday at 4 p.m. versus Salem International University (3-19, 1-11 G-MAC).

 

Thursday will be Military Appreciation night as a local color guard will perform between games and a military band will play along side a vocalist for the Star Spangled Banner prior to the men's game. A student-athlete will perform patriotic selections during the halftime of the men's game. All military personnel and their families can attend free of charge. Be sure to wear red, white, and blue or wear something to support your favorite branch of the military.

 

Saturday will be Senior Day, though the men's team does not have a senior, and we'll also recognize #TeamLynn – watch video for more about #TeamLynn and come meet them on Saturday.

 

Tyrell Corlew (JR/Louisville, KY), coming off of a 29-point outing at Davis & Elkins on Thursday, opened the game with a three-pointer. ABU battled back and both teams remained close for the opening 10 minutes. In fact, with 10:21 to go the game was tied at 21-21 and neither team had led by more than four points.

 

ABU rolled off nine straight points to take a 30-21 lead with 7:24 remaining. TNU didn't roll over and responded by outscoring ABU 14-4 to the intermission to take a 35-34 lead. Jalen Palm (JR/Louisville, KY), Mac Walden (JR/Versailles, KY), and Byron Sanford each hit a three-pointer in the run. Matt Gamberoni (JR/Mulhouse, France) and Devante Neal each scored a basket in the paint to contribute to the run as well.

 

Palm scored the opening basket of the second half to put the Trojans up three, 37-34. Unfortunately, the Battlers scored the next 13 points for a 10-point (47-37) lead with 14:18 remaining. With 12:48 to go, the lead was 14 (53-39) and at the 5:14 mark ABU held a 16-point (65-49) lead and never allowed the lead to dip below double digits the rest of the way.

ABU outscored TNU 39-27 in the second half and won 73-62.

 

Matt Gamberoni led Trevecca with 16 points and collected six rebounds, hitting 7-of-11 from the field. Trevecca hit 7-of-17 (41%) from three-point range in the first half, but went cold in the second half, hitting 1-of-9 in the final 20 minutes from long range. Trevecca shot 40% (23-58) from the field, 31% (8-26) from the three-point range, and 80% (8-10) from the foul line.

 

Alderson-Broaddus University outrebounded Trevecca 41-31. ABU had a 32-26 edge in scoring points in the paint, 18-8 in points scored off of turnovers. Trevecca had the edge 14-9 in bench scoring.

 

ABU shot 42% (24-57) from the field, 31% (6-19) from three-point range, and 76% (19-25) from the foul line.
