Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca baseball team (0-3) opened their season at home on Friday, February 13 against Maryville University - St. Louis (0-3).
Trevecca hosts Walsh University for their season opener on Friday, February 20, the first of a three game series at 3 p.m., followed by a double header on Saturday, February 21 starting at 12 p.m.
The Trojans saw action in the first inning with a single from Patrick Reed (SO/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) to the shortstop. Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) would follow suit and send a single out to centerfield, bringing Reed in for the first run of the game. Hunter Newman (JR/Chapmansboro, Tenn.) shot a double down the left side to bring Tichenor in and put the Trojans up 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Hunter Newman would hit a homerun over the left field, his fourth already this season. In the top of the fourth, Maryville's Nam steps up to bat, bases loaded with two outs and hits it over the left center fence for a grand slam to give the Saints the lead, 4-3. The Saints brought three more in off of two hits and two errors in the top of the fifth putting the them up, 7-3. ÂÂ
Trevecca wouldn't see action again until the bottom of the eighth when Nick Kristinus (FR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) hits a double down the left field line. Ethan Hurt (SO/Pegram, Tenn.) would get on base off an error from the shortstop while Kristinus advanced to third then a sacrifice bunt from Zach Tompkins (JR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) would bring him in. That would be the last run the Trojans would see.
Maryville would bring two more runs in at the top of the ninth off a double down the right field line from Wilkinson and hold Trevecca through the bottom of the inning to end the game, 9-4.
The Trojans had four runs off eight hits and two Saint errors to the Saint's nine runs off 10 hits and four Trojan errors.
