Trevecca Softball | 8-0 Sweep for Trevecca in Split vs Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Trevecca softball team (3-3) split a pair of games at Lincoln Memorial Unversity (1-1, 0-0 SAC) on Wednesday, February 11 with an 8-0 shutout in the first game followed by a 1-2 loss in game two.

 

Trevecca will host their home opener on Monday, February 16 when Nova Southeastern University (5-2, 0-0 SSC) visitis in a double header.

 

GAME ONE

Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) set the tone as lead off hitter in the first inning with a homerun. She reached again in the third inning off a wild pitch then stole second base and came home off a single from Kelsey Kemp (SR/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.). Kemp followed suit and stole second base, then was brought in by a single from Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.).

 

In the fourth inning, Alex Richardson (SO/Ten Mile, Tenn.) walked onto first and scored a run off a doublef rom Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.). Lincoln Memorial's Dreier reached on an error and advanced to second off a single from Snow. A popup from Johnson would give the Trojans a chance to get a double play, Jordan Griner (JR/Mulberry, Tenn.) to Kaitlin Crumpler (SO/Smyrna, Tenn.). Haley Fagan would close the inning forcing a strikeout from Tice. Trevecca up, 4-0, going into the fifth inning, would bring in one run off of one hit and hold the Railsplitters through the bottom.

 

With Kat Burbrink (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) up to bat at the top of the sixth, Tyree would bring in Shelby Andrews (JR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) to pinch hit. She nailed a single down the left field line. Another pinch hitter, Sammie Jo Ivy (FR/Enville, Tenn. ) for Kaitlin Crumpler, would give the Trojans a single down the right field line, Andrews advancing all the way to third and Ivy advancing to second on the throw. Brantley hit by a pitch and Crumpler back in to finish running for Ivy, would load the bases and bring Kemp up to bat. A fielder's choice would be enough to get Andrews in and advance Brantley to second, Crumpler out on the play. Lindsey Stephens would ground out to advance Brantley and Kemp, putting Brantley in scoring position. A single from Griner would bring both Brantley and Kemp in to put the Trojans up, 8-0. They would hold the Railsplitters through the bottom of the sixth to finish the sweep an inning early.

 

Trevecca had eight hits versus Lincoln Memorial's three, one error for each team.

 

GAME TWO

In the first inning, Kelsey Kemp singled to right center followed by single from Lindsey Stephens in the same spot, to advance her to second. They would both steal on a strike, getting Kemp in scoring position but the Railsplitters closed the inning out. Shelby Andrews would come up for the second inning and hit a homerun out over right field to score the first run of the game, 1-0.

 

Two doubles in the third inning would be enough to put the Railsplitters up, 2-1. The Trojans would see two more hits, one in the fourth and one in the seventh. It wouldn't be enough to to earn anymore runs.

 

Trevecca saw six hits to Lincoln Memorial's eight.
