Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (4-7) lost in overtime, 94-91, to the University of Missouri-St. Louis (5-5), on Saturday at the Maryville-St. Louis Classic. Byron Sanford scored 27 for the Trojans at the Moloney Arena.

Trevecca will face the hosts, the University of Maryville-St. Louis (5-6), on Sunday at 3 PM. Trevecca trails Maryville 2-1 in the all-time series, but the Trojans were victors in the last meeting, a 89-86 win at Maryville as apart of the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover Classic Nov. 14th. ÂÂ

This was the first meeting for Trevecca and UMSL in men's basketball.

Aside from a 3-2 UMSL lead early, Trevecca led until the 9:39 mark of the first half, when Tre Ogles tied the game at 28-28 with a free throw.

Trevecca's largest lead was 10 (22-12), which came at the 14:15 mark of the first half. A 21-6 run by the Tritons turned that Trojan lead into a five point (33-28) UMSL lead with 7:52 left in the first half.

Trevecca scored seven straight and regained the lead (35-33) on a three-pointer from Jacob Williams with 5:52 left in the half.

The teams were tied at 42-42 at halftime.

The Tritons pushed out to a 50-45 advantage two minutes into the second half, but the Trojans kept the Tritons close until the Tritons used a 9-0 run to pull ahead by 11 (66-55) with 12:17 to play.

With 8:29 left their lead was still 11 (72-61) after a lay in by DeAndre Holmes. Trevecca responded with an 18-7 run over the next 6:15 that tied the game at 79-79 with 2:14 remaining in regulation.

With 1:16 left Tre Hymer scored on a jumper that setup the dramatic final nine seconds of regulation. Trevecca missed back-to-back three-point attempts and then the Tritons missed a jumper with 31 second left that setup a Byron Sanford layup with nine seconds to play to tie the game at 81-81. Then Brandon Marquardt of the Tritons missed a potential game-winning three-pointer as time expired in regulation.

Neither team gained much separation early in the five minute overtime period. Trevecca led for the only time of the OT period on layup by Percy Blade, giving the Trojans an 87-85 lead with 2:38 left.

The Triton scored the next seven points for a five-point (92-87) lead with 42 seconds remaining. Trevecca cut the lead to one (92-91) with 28 seconds left. A pair of made free throws from Marquardt put the Tritons up three.

With five seconds left in the overtime period, Byron Sanford had his three-point attempt roll in and out, a three that would have sent the game to a second overtime.

Marquardt scored nine of his points in the extra period, including five in the final minute for the win.

Marquardt hit his sixth three-pointer of the game with a minute to play gave UMSL a 90-87 lead it would not relinquish. He hit two free throws with 14 seconds remaining helped seal the victory.

Marquardt scored 26 points for the Tritons, while Tre Hymer added 21 points.

Sanford, who moved past the 1000 career-point mark in the Trojans win over Saint Joseph's on Thursday, added 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. Sanford collected eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Tyrell Corlew scored 20 points, hitting 6-of-12 from beyond the three-point arch. Matt Gamberoni scored 18 points with seven rebounds. Gambo hit 5-of-6 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line. Percy Blade dropped healthy numbers in every category on the night's statistical sheet with six points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

The Tritons shot 60 percent (36-60) from the field, hitting 65.4 percent (17-26) in the second half. The Trojans shot 48.5 percent (32-66) with a strong 54.8 percent (17-31) first half. Trevecca was 3-of-8 from the field in overtime. The Tritons were 3-of-5 from the field and 6-of-6 at the free throw line in the overtime. UMSL hit 14-of-18 at the foul line for the game.

Trevecca shot 36% (10-28) from three-point range and 85% (17-20) from the foul line.

Each team scored 42 in the first half and 39 in the second half. Trevecca held the lead for 10:32 for the game while UMSL held the lead for 27:12. The game was tied for 7:16.

Trevecca held a 32-30 rebounding edge, including a 10-4 advantage on the offensive end, outscoring UMSL, 11-3, in second chance points. The Trojans also owned a 19-12 advantage in points off turnovers as the Tritons committed 15 miscues.
