Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (4-8) lost at Maryville University-St. Louis (5-6), 66-64, on Sunday at Moloney Arena.

Trevecca is off until December 30th when they play NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State University at 6 PM at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Trojans visit Christian Brothers University the next day in Memphis at 4 PM. The Trojans will open conference play on Jan. 2 at 3 PM in Ohio. The Trojans next home game is Jan. 7 at 7 PM when they host Tenn. Wesleyan College at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

The Trojans are now 1-3 vs Maryville. Trevecca won the last meeting, 89-86, at the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover Classic Nov. 15th which was also played at Maryville.

Trevecca opened the game with a 6-0 run with a pair of baskets from Matt Gamberoni (SR/Mulhouse, France) and then a field goal from Byron Sanford (SR/Louisville, KY). Maryville tied the game at 7-7 and the game remained tight the rest of the half. Tyrell Corlew (SR/Louisville, KY) drained a three-pointer with 14:26 to go in the half for a 12-9 Trojan lead. Maryville led 21-18 with 8:46 on the clock, but the Trojans, led by four points from Percy Blade (JR/Louisville, KY), scored six straight for a 24-21 lead with 7:16 to go and the Trojans did not trail again in the half. The Trojans led 30-24 following a Matt Gamberoni field goal at 4:43 and led 35-34 at the break.

Gamberoni scored 12 in the first half while Sanford scored six with six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

The Saints led 39-38 with 17:15 to go and Matt Gamberoni fueled a 6-0 run with four points and the Trojans regained the lead 44-39 with 15:20 left. It was the largest lead of the second half for either team.

Maryville pulled ahead again, 56-55, with 5:58 left, but Byron Sanford scored on back-to-back possessions to put the Trojans up 59-56 with 5:12 left.

Percy Blade put the Trojans up 63-60 with a jumper at the 2:16 mark. The Saints scored five straight though to take a 65-63 lead with :14 remaining. Palm hit a free throw, but Maryville got the rebound on the second free throw miss, and hit the second of two free throw attempts for a 66-64 lead with three seconds remaining. The Trojans inbounded the ball and missed a three at the buzzer, giving the Saints a two-point win.

Matt Gamberoni scored 21 and had four steals and four assists. Byron Sanford capped a terrific week with 12 points and 13 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Percy Blade added 10 points.

Trevecca shot 43% (26-60) from the field, 21% (3-14) from three-point range, and 53% (9-17) from the foul line. MUSL had the edge in rebounding, 34-31. Trevecca owned the lead for 22:16 of the game, while the Saints were on top for 6:50. Trevecca's largest lead was seven (31-24) with 4:43 left in the first half. The Saints largest lead was three (49-46) with 11:20 left in the game. Trevecca dominated the points in the paint, 40-20. Bench scoring went to the Saints, 30-19.
