Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Tame Panthers, Host OVU Friday for Senior Night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca volleyball (14-11, 4-3 G-MAC) team swept Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Kentucky Wesleyan College (7-17, 1-6 G-MAC) 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-13) at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

 

Trevecca hosts senior night on Friday at 6 PM at the Trojan Fieldhouse. Seniors honored will be Zakia Jackson (SR/Hermitage, TN), Amy Bottomlee (SR/Hayden, AL), Delaney Hearne (SR/San Marcos, TX), Allison Boe (SR/Murrieta, CA), Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN), and Sara Davis. The opponent is Ohio Valley University (10-18, 3-3 G-MAC) in a key G-MAC match. Trevecca is 1-2 all-time versus OVU. Trevecca hosts Salem International University (6-18, 1-5 G-MAC) in their final home match on Saturday at Noon. Trevecca is 1-0 versus SIU.

Trevecca is now 3-6 all-time versus Kentucky Wesleyan and the win breaks a five-match winning streak for the Panthers in the series.

 

In the first set the Panthers led 13-11 when Clare Taylor (FR/Milan, TN)plied a kill that produced a sideout. Zakia Jackson came on to serve and pushed the Trojans to a 15-13 lead with three straight service points. Later with KWC leading 23-22, Clare Taylor again got a sideout on a kill to tie the match and setup Zakia Jackson to serve again. Jackson produced two points in a row for the 25-23 win.

 

In the second set Jackson came on to serve with the Trojans leading 4-2 and produced four straight points on serve. Jackson served again with Trevecca leading 16-12 and produced another four consecutive points for a 20-12 advantage.

 

Jackson served well again in the third set. With TNU up 19-11 Jackson produced four more points on serve for a 23-11 advantage for the Purple and White.

 

In all the Trojans scored 17 of their points off of the serves from Zakia Jackson.

  

Katelyn Atkinson led a strong Trojan attack with 20 kills and 16 digs and a .533 attack percentage. The junior added two assist and two service aces. Loren Bennett contributed 34 assists and nine digs. Clare Taylor had eight kills with a .333 attack percentage with no errors and 12 digs. Allison Boe had nine digs. Zakia Jackson paced the Trojans on serve and added four kills, a .444 attack percentage, and six digs.

 

The Purple and White hit for .303 (12 kills – 2 errors – 33 total attacks) in the second set and .324 (16-5-34) in the third.

 

Katelyn Atkinson now has 1200 career kills and is second all-time in that category. Tonight she passed former teammate Kristen Johnson who finished her career with 1199. Michelle Arend Plummer is the career leader with 1369.

 

Loren Bennett is now third on the all-time assists list with 2453. She recently passed Brooke Cannon who had 2426 in her career. Natalie Pifer is the career leader with 5722 and Kelly Huff ended her career with 4650.
