Trevecca Volleyball | Edged by Cedarville, Trojans Host Ursuline Saturday @ 1PM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (12-11, 2-3 G-MAC) lost a hard fought battle with Great Midwest Athletic Conference leading Cedarville University (13-13, 7-1 G-MAC) in five sets, 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 10-15) at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
 
Trevecca hosts fellow G-MAC opponent Ursuline College (7-10, 3-5 G-MAC) at 1 PM on Saturday. The Arrows pushed the Trojans to five sets in Pepper Pike, Ohio when the two teams met earlier this year on Oct. 2nd. Trevecca leads the series 4-3 with the Arrows. The Arrows upset the Trojans in three sets last year at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

Cedarville leads the series 8-2 and have won three in a row in the series. 
 
In the first set Trevecca lead for most of the early portions and were ahead 17-14 more than midway through the set. CU tied the match, but Trevecca regained composure and pulled ahead 20-18. The visitors pulled to the Trojans again and then ahead for a 25-22 win.
 
Trevecca jumped out early in set two and led most of the way. Cedarville trailed by two, (13-11) when the Trojans pulled away. TNU scored five of the next six points for a 18-12 lead. Trevecca eventually won the set 25-17 and evened the match at 1-1. 
 
Trevecca fell behind 5-3 early in set three, but spent a great deal of the rest of the set in the lead. Trevecca's lead surged to five points (20-15) late in the set. The Yellow Jackets showed their grit and rallied catch the Trojans and fought off a set point for a 26-24 win and a 2-1 match lead.
 
Trevecca returned the favor in set four and won after trailing most of the set. In fact it appeared the visitors were going to run the Trojans out of the Fieldhouse with a 12-5 lead. Ashleigh Lozier (SO/Murfreesboro, TN)ped the Trojans to four straight points and a 12-9 deficit. Later, with Trevecca trailing 20-18, Lozier served the Trojans closer again with a 3-0 run that tied the match at 20-20. CU pulled ahead 21-20 with a sideout, but TNU got the serve right back with a Stephanie Bouchard (SO/Chattanooga, TN)l. Bouchard then served the Trojans to the win with three straight points on serve and a 24-21 lead. Trevecca won 25-22.
 
In the fifth set it looked like Trevecca might be capitalizing on the win with a 8-5 lead. After a Trojan error gave the serve back to the Jackets, Abby Shelton severed CU to a 11-8 lead with five more points on serve. Trevecca made it 11-10, but could get no closer and CU won 15-10.
 
Trevecca produced three players with double-doubles. Katelyn Atkinson produced a team-high 20 kills and added 14 digs with six block assists and three assists. Clare Taylor added 13 kills and a team-high digs. Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN)ped the team with 50 assists and 14 digs. 
 
Janessa Hodge had a strong performance with 13 kills with a .346 attack percentage and four blocks. Alex Reuter had six kills and six blocks. Ashleigh Lozier had 11 digs and  was a highlight on serve with three aces. 
 
As a team Trevecca performed well through out, but peaked with a .423 attack percentage in set two and .324 in set four.
