Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Turnaway Ursuline Arrows, Win 4th in a Row

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Trevecca volleyball team (8-6, 1-0 G-MAC ) started Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on the road with a five-set win at Ursuline College (5-12, 1-2 G-MAC) at The Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center on Friday, 17-25, 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 15-12. It is the fourth win in a row for the Trojans, all on the road.

Trevecca started G-MAC play with the best overall record amoung conference teams.

 
Trevecca coach Jayme Crowley was pleased with another road win, " This is a Big road win for us! Katelyn had an incredible performance and the team played gritty defense! We have climbed back with four wins in a row on the road!"
 
"I really liked the way we played with grit again on the road it was a display of team chemistry and impressive TEAM effort. 
 
Crowley talked about the fight in the fifth set, "Ursuline fought hard at home and pushed us to a fifth set. We moved Katelyn to the outside because it was a shorter set and it proved to be a key move. Katelyn made it pay off, converting seven of our 12 kills in match-deciding set."
 
"We have a short turn around and will face an always tough Cedarville, but I believe we'll come out ready to play tomorrow."
 

Trevecca is 4-3 all-time versus the Arrows, breaking a string of three losses in the last four matches against the Arrows.

 

It is the fifth match in six-match road swing for the Purple and White. The Trojans are nearing the middle of playing 12 of 13 on the road. Trevecca will play five of their last six matches at the Trojan Fieldhouse. 

 

The Purple and White visit Cedarville (Ohio) University (8-8, 3-0 G-MAC) to play the three-time defending champion Yellow Jackets on Saturday, October 3 at Noon in another G-MAC match. CU leads the series with TNU 6-2, but TNU is the only team that beat the Yellow Jackets in conference play last year. CU is on a six-match win streak.

 

Katelyn Atkinson (JR/Hermitage, TN), the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week the last two weeks, led the way with a .310 attack percentage and 25 hills, 11 digs, four blocks, Atkinson had seven kills and only one error in the fifth and deciding set. Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN) piled on 51 more assists with seven digs. Janessa Hodge (FR/Nashville, MI) contributed eight kills and five blocks. Allison Boe (SR/Murrieta, CA) (24) and Clarie Taylor (22) topped the digs category. Taylor added six kills. 

 

In their three set wins Trevecca had at least a .235 attack percentage. In set two it was .293 (14 kills, 2 errors, 41 attacks). In the third set it was .235 (15 kills, 7 errors, 34 attacks). The fifth set was .273 (12 kills, 3 errors, 33 attacks).

 

Trevecca takes a brief break from the road swing with a home match on Tuesday at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans host King University October 6th at 6 PM. Trevecca defeated the Tornado on September 24th in four to improve to 2-0 versus King all-time.
