Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Drop After First Set at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Trevecca volleyball team (8-7, 1-1 G-MAC ) lost at Cedarville (Ohio) University (9-8, 4-0 G-MAC) on Saturday, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 19-25. 
 
Trevecca plays at home on Tuesday, October 6th at 6 PM against non-conference opponent King University. Trevecca defeated King earlier on this road swing in Bristol, Tenn. in four sets. 
 
The Yellow Jackets are the three-time defending Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion. CU leads the series with TNU 7-2 now. CU is on a seven-match win streak, all at home.
 
Trevecca entered the match with the best overall record among G-MAC teams. 
 
Today's match at the Callan Center is the sixth road match in a row for the Trojans in a streak where they will play 12 of 13 on the road. Trevecca will play five of their last six matches at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
 
Trevecca started hot in the first set, taking a 6-2 lead. CU tied the match at 8-8, but TNU regained the advantage and eventually led 14-10. The hosts tied the match four more times, but never took the lead. Trevecca scored the final three, the last two on the serve from Stephanie Brouchard, for the first set win. The Trojans had a .243 attack percentage with 14 kills and five errors in 37 first set tries. 
 
The Yellow jackets led 13-9 in the second set when they gained control with eight straight points for a 21-9 lead. Trevecca regained some composure down the stretch, but the Yellow Jackets closed out the victory 25-14.
 
The third set was tight early, but Cedarville held the early advantage 7-5. Trevecca used a 11-3 run to take a 16-10 lead and eventually led by as much as seven, 18-11. The host Yellow Jackets took a set deciding two-point edge at 24-22 with seven straight points. CU had as serve for set point when the Trojans got the side out. It was a little too late for the Trojans as the Yellow Jackets completed the rally with a side out of their own and picked up the set win 25-23.
 
In the fourth set the Trojans took a slight edge (3-2) early, but CU stayed close and the match rotated through ties and a one-point edge until Cedarvillle edged ahead 8-6 and eventually built a 13-8 margin. Trevecca cut the lead to just two at 17-15, but Cedarville pulled ahead 23-15 with six straight points. Trevecca got the side out and made it 23-18 before CU got the match serve at 24-18. Trevecca got the side out, but CU did as well for the 25-19 win.  
 

Katelyn Atkinson (JR/Hermitage, TN) led the match with 23 kills and a .280 attack percentage. The junior and two-time G-MAC Athlete of the Week, added six digs. Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN) added 38 assists and nine digs. Clare Taylor (FR/Milan, TN) (13) and Ashleigh Lozier (SO/Murfreesboro, TN) (12) led the digs category. Janessa Hodge (FR/Nashville, MI) had seven kills.
