Trevecca Volleyball | Beats Ala.-Huntsville; Falls to Lee in Four

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team defeated the University of Alabama in Huntsville 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22) at Lee University on Saturday. The Trojans also played Lee University and the Flames topped TNU 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 22-25, 15-25) at Paul Dana Walker Arena.

 

Trevecca visits the University of Southern Indiana on Tuesday for the final road game in stretch that includes 12 road games in 13 matches. Trevecca is 0-1 versus USI and the Screaming Eagles are 16-7 overall on the season. Southern Indiana and Trevecca will play at 6 PM in the Physical Activities Center on their Evansville, Ind. campus.

 

The Trojans are 8-3 in their last 11 with a 7-3 mark in their last 10 on the road. In all the team is 7-4 in road games during the stretch with one remaining. The Trojans will end the season playing five of its last six at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The lone road game in the stretch is a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match at Kentucky Wesleyan College in the season finale.

 

One treat during this final home stand is the chance to play two matches during the 2015 Trevecca Homecoming weekend.

 

ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE RECAP

The Trojans have won eight of their last 10. They are 7-2 in road games during that stretch.

Katelyn Atkinson (JR/Hermitage, TN) led the way with 21 kills and a .340 attack percentage. Atkinson added a team-high 11 digs as well for the double-double. Clare Taylor (FR/Milan, TN) added 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Alex Reuter (FR/Brentwood, TN) added 11 kills (.474 attack percentage) and Stephanie Bouchard (SO/Chattanooga, TN) had 13 kills and a .379 attack percentage. Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN) topped the Trojans with 56 assists. Reuter had four blocks and Janessa Hodge (FR/Nashville, MI) returned to the lineup with three blocks and four kills.

 

It is the first win for Trevecca in four tries against the UAH Chargers in the NCAA Division II era. 

 

LEE UNIVERSITY RECAP

The Trojans are now 1-17 versus Lee University (10-13) in the last 18 meetings. The two were conference foes for a number of years in the old TranSouth Athletic Conference.

 

Katelyn Atkinson tallied another 24 kills, eight digs and five blocks. Clare Taylor marked a double double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Ashleigh Lozier (SO/Murfreesboro, TN) dug out a team high 15 and added two service aces. Janessa Hodge put up five blocks.

  

The Trojans hit for a .324 attack percentage in the opening set, but didn't rise above a .184 attack percentage in the final three sets.

 

Trevecca led the entire first set. The set that turned the match was the third. The set witnessed 13 ties and five lead changes. Trevecca led 21-20, but Lee pulled ahead 24-21 before claiming the set 25-22.

 

The Flames dominated the fourth set. The match was tied at 6-6 when the hosts used a 8-2 run to take a 14-8 lead. Trevecca closed the gap to just three at 15-12. The Flames closed the set and match with a 11-3 run.
