PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Trevecca University men's soccer team (0-1) lost in their season opener at NCAA D2 No. 18 University of West Florida (1-0). The game officially launches Trevecca into the NCAA Division II era with its first athletic event as a fully active member of NCAA D2.

Trevecca will host Southern Indiana (1-0) on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Screaming Eagles defeated G-MAC rival Kentucky Wesleyan 1-0 on Thursday in Owensboro, Ky.

Trevecca balanced the Argonauts nationally ranked offense for more than two-thirds of the opening half, but the Argos broke through with what would prove to be the game-winner in the 34th minute (33:59).

UWF's Tristan Rehrig found the back of the net on an assist by Chandler Castleman, it was the first of two Argos first half goals.

"Tough start to the season, we knew we had to play well to compete with a team at this level," commented Trevecca coach Danny Leavy. "Unfortunately we made too many mistakes and they took advantage of them."
"We are excited to get to our next game at home, our first match as a fully active NCAA Division II member, so we can quickly turn things around and play at the high level we are capable of playing at. We look forward to a large crowd on Saturday."

The Trojans continued the pace defensively, but a late first half goal spoiled the effort. Felipe Oliveira snuck a shot past Trevecca keeper Braydon Brown (SR/Brownsburg, Ind.) in the 44th minute (43:49). Ethan Judice assisted on the goal that gave the home team a 2-0 half time lead.

Marteinn Urbancic scored on a header shortly after the teams resumed play in the second half. Jorge Chirinos set him up for the 48th minute (47:37) goal that put UWF up 3-0 and the match out of reach.Â

The Argos added two more goals for the crowd of 253 at the UWF Soccer Complex.

Oliveira scored his second goal in the 59th minute (58:48) on the second assist of the night by Chirinos.

Judice, who assisted on Oliveira's first goal, scored the final goal of the night with and assist from Hank Klein in the 83rd minute (82:57).

West Florida produced 10 first half shots and five of those were on goal. Braydon Brown, Trevecca's keeper, had three first half saves for the Trojans. Brown added four saves in the second period for a seven-save night.
