Volleyball | Christian Brothers Ends Trevecca's 7-Match Streak

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Christian Brothers University Bucs (5-7) ended the seven-match win streak the Trevecca Trojans (8-4) were on with a three-set sweep (25-27, 17-25, 19-25) of the visiting Trojans at Canale Arena.

Trevecca continues the road trip with two more matches on Saturday, both at Union University's Fred Delay Gym in Jackson, Tenn. Trevecca will play Arkansas Tech at 2 p.m. and Union University at 4 p.m. (Watch Live Video/Stats).

The first set went to extra points as neither team could gain separation in regulation. CBU led by four points twice but TNU returned to form to take a 20-19 lead late in the set. The Bucs turned the table though and broke a 25-25 tie scoring the final two points for the 27-25 victory.

The Bucs took off on a 10-3 run to start the second set and never let the Trojans threaten for a 25-17 victory.

Trevecca showed promise in the third set by scoring the first for points, but CBU turned a 7-5 deficit into a 16-9 lead with an 11-2 run and settled for a 25-19 victory to seal the three-set sweep.

Coach Crowley was disappointed in the team effort on Friday, "We did not play well and we didn't show up with a mindset that will allow us to win on the road against a good team like Christian Brothers."

"If we play this way on Saturday it will make for a long road trip, but I have confidence that we'll respond to the challenge and play inspired team ball tomorrow."

Delaney Hearne (JR/San Marcos, Tex.) led Trevecca with 10 kills. Hearne had a .391 attack percentage with just one error in 23 attacks. Loren Bennett (JR/Ooltewah, Tenn.) collected 28 assists, had six digs, a .300 attack (3 kills, 0 errors, 10 attacks) percentage, two aces, and three blocks. Katelyn Atkinson (SO/Hermitage, Tenn.) added 11 digs.
