Volleyball | Trevecca Wins Fifth Straight, now 6-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca (6-3) volleyball team won their fifth consecutive match with a dramatic 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 9-25, 15-11) win over Arkansas Tech (5-3) in the final 2014 Scott Jones Classic match.

Trevecca returns to action on September 16 when they visit Covenant College on Lookout Mountain.

The Trojans are now 1-0 against Arkansas Tech as the two schools had never faced each other in volleyball previously.

Katelyn Atkinson (SO/Hermitage, Tenn.), the reigning G-MAC player of the week, led the Trojans with 19 kills and 13 digs. Kayleigh Jarrett (SO/Tehachapi, Calif.) had 19 digs to lead TNU in that category. Loren Bennett (JR/Ooltewah, Tenn.) had a 47 assist match and added nine digs and had three blocks. Delaney Hearne (JR/San Marcos, Tex.) added in 17 kills and a .324 attack percentage. Cara Trunell had seven block assists and six kills.

As a team the Trojans has a .181 attack  percentage. Their best set was the fifth when they had a .450 attack percentage.

After taking the first two sets, the Trojans faltered and Arkansas Tech rallied to even the sets and 2-2 and forcing a fifth and deciding set.

The fifth set is when the Trojans came alive again with 11 kills and only two errors in 20 attempts. The result was a suffocating .450 attack percentage and 15-11 set win and overall match victory. Atkinson had five kills and one error in seven attempts for .571 attack percentage in the set.

Trevecca trailed 7-8 midway through the set, but coach Jayme Crowley called a timeout and the Trojans responded. Out of the time out Atkinson had a kill that returned the serve to TNU. Hearne came on to serve helped the Trojans to three more points contributing to a 4-0 run put the Trojans up for good.
