Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (41-12) defeated Cedarville University (28-25) 8-5 in the title game of the 2014 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.

Trevecca, the two-time G-MAC champions, defeated Cedarville in 2013 for the title.

Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second the game was halted for rain with Bryson Shelton (FR/Powell, Tenn. ) at the plate for Trevecca. When the game resumed, the teams had moved from Prasco Park, a natural surface, to Legacy Field, a synthetic turf. The delay lasted an hour and 53 minutes.

Both starting pitchers returned to action after the delay. Trevecca starter John Bolton (FR/Nolensville, Tenn.) (7-1) pitched seven innings to get the win. He threw 91 pitches and 54 of those were strikes. Jimmy Justin Dailey (JR/Clarksville, Tenn.) pitched the final inning and two thirds for his second save of the year.

Trent Johnson (1-3), the Cedarville starter, threw a total of 50 pitches and left after two and a third innings pitched.

Cedarville broke through with a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1. Trevecca regained the lead with a four-run bottom of the inning for a 5-1 advantage.

Trevecca added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets greeted Trojan reliever Austin Sisk (SO/Kodak, Tenn. ) with a four run rally in the eighth to cut the TNU lead to just three runs at 8-5. Dailey snuffed out the rally in the eighth and the pitched a perfect ninth for the win.

Seven Trojans hit safely during the game for a balanced attack with four Trojans delivering two-hit games.

Nick Howell (SR/Hendersonville, Tenn.), the conference player of the year, was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI, a walks, and a triple. The triple adds to his season (13) and career (19) Trevecca triples record.

Tyler Tichenor (SO/Centertown, Ky) also had a double included in his 2-for-5 day. He scored a run, and drove in two.

The Trojans will find out Sunday if they have more games to play. The team is hoping for an at large bid to the 2014 NCCAA National Tournament. The NCCAA event is also hosted in Cincinnati at Prasco Park and Legacy Field.
