Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tim Kurucz's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth lifted Bloomsburg University (7-7) to a 5-4 come-from-behind-victory over Trevecca Nazarene University (16-4) Monday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at Jackson Field.
Â
The contest concluded the Trevecca Baseball Classic which saw Bloomsburg, Mercyhurst University and Grand Valley State University come to the Music City.
Â
Through the first five innings there were just four hits collected by the two teams.
Â
After a long scoreless drought, Huskies centerfield Brad Smith hit a two-out double in the top of the sixth plating Damin Muth to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead.
Â
In the home half of the sixth, Trevecca exploded for four runs. Nick Howell singled and later scored from second after a throwing error from BU's shortstop. Three batters later, Cameron Boyett reached on a fielder's choice plating Tyler Tichenor. After a wild pitch scored another Trojan base-runner, Ethan Hurt reached on a fielding error by shortstop plating Jeffrey Scarritt.
Â
Trevecca led 4-1 after six innings.
Â
The three-run deficit didn't faze the Huskies as they would tie the game in the eighth. Three-of-the-first four batters reached base on singles and then a bases-loaded, hit-by-pitch of Tim Ravel brought the score to 4-2. Brian Almand followed with a two-run single to left field tying the game at four.
Â
In the top of the ninth, Kurucz sent a shot to right field and allowed Eric Frain to tag up and advance home for the go-ahead run.
Â
Trevecca did get a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth as Patrick Reed singled and then stole second. But Bloomsburg pitcher Tyler Hill (2-1) would induce a flyout to left field to end the game.
Â
Hill tossed the last three innings of the game and allowed just one hit while fanning three. Muth was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate while Almand drove in a team-high two runs.
Â
Howell led TNU collecting a pair of hits. The five hits from Trevecca's offense were a season low. Alex Shoulders tossed five scoreless innings while Michael Donaldson (1-1) took his first loss of the season.
Â
The Trojans return to action March 19 as they travel to face No. 29 University of Alabama in Huntsville (18-7) for a 5 p.m. contest.
