Softball | Trevecca Sweeps Bethel, Now 8-3

McKENZIE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (8-3) defeated Bethel University (0-4) 2-1 and 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Game One - 2-1 Trevecca

TNU broke the scoreless tie with a run in their half of the third inning when Alex Richardson blasted a home run (3). Bethel tied the game with a run in the fourth. The game remained tied until the Trojans picked up the game-winner in the sixth when Mackenzie Leding hit her first home run of the season.

 

Kelsey Kemp and Kaitlin Crumpler each hit a double. Kemp, Lindsey Stephens, and Shelby Andrews all had a stolen base. Crumpler was the only Trojan with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.

 

Kelsey Kemp (2-1) picked up the win after starting and pitching six innings. Kemp allowed five hits and one run - unearned. Kemp gave up two walks and delivered three strikeouts. Haley Fagan pitched an inning, giving up a hit and striking out two for the save (1).

 

Trevecca pounded out seven hits, but committed three errors while scoring their two runs. BU had six hits and an error.

 

Tori Hensley (0-1) took the loss in a complete game effort. She allowed seven this, two walks, and didn't have any strike outs.

 

Game Two - 3-2 Trevecca

Trevecca repeated game one by breaking a scoreless tie in the top of the third, this time it was a two-run inning. Trevecca added their third run, the run that ended up being the game-winner, in the fourth. The Trevecca shutout ended when Bethel scored a run in the bottom half of the fourth and fifth innings, but that was the end of the scoring for both teams.

 

Alex Richardson remained hot at the plate, reaching base in all three appearances. Richardson was 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored. Lindsey Stephens was 2-for-3. Mackenzie Leding was 1-for-1 with two RBI's. Ansley Brantley was 0-for-2, but scored a run and reached on a walk. She also had three stolen bases. Kayla Richards and Lindsey Stephens also has stolen bases.

 

Sammie Jo Ivy (1-) picked up her first career win with four innings of work. Ivy has pitched 11.1 innings and hasn't allowed an earned run to date. Ivy allowed two hits and three walks, but allowed just one run - unearned and had one strikeout. Haley Fagan pitched an inning and picked up her second save. Fagan did allow two hits and a run while walking one and striking out three.

 

Trevecca had five hits and Bethel four. Trevecca had two more miscues in the field while Bethel played errorless ball.

 

Trevecca has added a double header for Saturday. The Trojans will host Ohio Dominican University at Noon.
