Baseball | Trevecca Defeats Lewis University, Alan Smith Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University (5-2) baseball team defeated Lewis University (0-2) 5-2 Friday evening at Jackson Field. It was the second win of the day for the Trojans in the Alan Smith Classic @ Trevecca. Trevecca defeated Union University 11-2 Classic opener.

Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first and Lewis answered with a run in the top of the second.

Trevecca tagged Flyers starter Kendall Paluch (0-1) with three runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 advantage. LU scored their final run in the top of the fourth and Trevecca ended the scoring with run in the eighth.

Nick Howell opened the Trojan third with a double to left field. Tyler Tichenor followed with a
Double to left center; moving Howell to third. Hunter Newman reached on a fielding error and advanced to second, as Tichenor and Howell scored. Luke Fennell singled to center; Newman advanced to third. Cameron Boyett grounded into double
Play, but scored Newman from third.

Tyler Tichenor and Luke Fennell each had a three-hit game. Tichenor was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a double. Fennell went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Hunter Newman was 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Nick Howell had a 2-for-5 performance with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Bryan Smith (1-1) was stellar on the mound, sitting down nine Flyers on strikes and allowed three hits, two runs (1 earned), and no walks. Smith pitched 8.1 innings whole Mason Dunn picked up the save, his first of the year, with two-thirds of an inning of work. Dunn allowed just a walk.

Trevecca pounded out 13 hits in scoring five runs on Lewis University. The Trojans had one miscue in the game. Lewis, playing their first game of the year, managed three hits and two runs, but committed two errors.

Trevecca will play the Ohio Dominican University (0-0) Panthers on Saturday at 7 PM. ODU will play Union at 3:30 on Saturday. Live statistics  will be available for all three classic games on Saturday.
