Men's Basketball | Trevecca Loses on the Road at First Place Alderson Broaddus

PHILLIPPI, W.Va. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (7-16, 4-8 G-MAC) lost at first place Alderson Broaddus University (18-5, 10-1 G-MAC) 88-56 tonight at the Rex Pyles Arena. The Battlers are tied with Kentucky Wesleyan College atop the G-MAC standings and have won 16 of their last 17 games.  

 

A 9-2 start by the Battlers looked to set the tone, but Trevecca played well throughout most of the first half. The ABU lead was 11-4 with 14:22 left in the first half when the Trojans challenged the first place Battlers. Trevecca outscored Alderson Broaddus 9-1 for a 13-12 lead at the 11:58 mark.  

 

With 4:03 to go in the half Nick Drake scored on a layup that pulled the Trojans to within three (31-28). But, ABU closed the half with a 12-2 run that gave them a 43-30 lead at the break.

 

The Battlers eased their lead out slowly as the second half got underway. Their lead had risen to 23 (58-35) with 11:17 remaining. The Trojans would not match the Battlers down the stretch and lost by 32, 88-56. ABU outscored Trevecca 45-26 in the second half.

 

Trevecca shot 36% (20-55) from the field, 22% (4-18) from three-point range, and 75% (12-16) from the foul line. ABU hit 44% (12-27) from three-point range and outrebounded Trevecca 43-29.

 

Aaron Turner (12) and Jordan Bedwell (11) were the only Trojans to reach double figures in scoring. Bedwell and Byron Sanford added a team-high five rebounds apiece.  

 

ABU holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. The Battlers defeated Trevecca 75-52 in the first-ever meeting January 9th at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

 

On Friday, Trevecca will complete a suspended game from February 1st at Salem International University. The game between visiting Trevecca and Salem International University was suspended, due to the roof of Salem's T. Edward Davis Gym leaking water onto the playing surface, with 7:40 remaining in the game and SIU leading TNU, 77-62. The game will tip at Noon central time.

 

On Saturday, Trevecca will play at Davis & Elkins College (11-13, 3-8 G-MAC) at 3 PM in Elkins, W.Va. D&E defeated Trevecca 76-66 at the Fieldhouse on January 11th. The Senators have lost their last four games.
