Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kaysie Brittenham came off the bench and scored a game-high 20 points including a 5-of-7 mark from three-point range to give Cedarville University (13-8, 9-2 G-MAC) a 63-59 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University (14-8, 11-2 G-MAC) Saturday afternoon in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
ÂÂ
Cedarville now controls its own destiny in the G-MAC and if it wins out will win the regular season title and host the conference tournament in March. Trevecca needs to win out and hope CU loses one more game for it to host the G-MAC Tournament.
ÂÂ
It was the first regular season loss at home for Trevecca in its near two-year history in the G-MAC.
ÂÂ
The Lady Jackets controlled the first half and jumped out to a 12-2 lead after a layup from Deborah Gordon with 13:46 left in the half.
ÂÂ
TNU cut the double-digit deficit to four (12-8) after an Anna Mitchell free throw but that would be the closest the Trojans would get the rest of the first half.
ÂÂ
CU would go back up ten (18-8) following back-to-back three-point shots from Brittenham and Reagan Ryan. The Lady Jackets would keep that lead and take a 29-19 lead into halftime.
ÂÂ
The Trojans hit just 17.4% (4-of-23) in the first half.
ÂÂ
Trevecca started the second half with a 14-6 run which brought the score to 35-33 Cedarville. Haley Felker had two 3-points makes while Sarah Raby scored four during the run.
ÂÂ
Cedarville wouldn't give up the lead though and hit a 12-0 run of its own to go back up double digits (47-33) after another three-pointer from Brittenham to cap the stretch.
ÂÂ
With 10:31 remaining in the game, the Trojans would slowly crawl back to put pressure on the Lady Jackets.
ÂÂ
Trailing 54-44 with 5:21 left, TNU would go on a 15-7 run to cut the deficit to just two points (61-59) after a Kaci Britt Bell three-pointer banked home.
ÂÂ
In the Lady Jackets' next possession, Felker stole the ball from Kayla Linkous giving TNU a chance to either tie or take the lead.
ÂÂ
Cedarville would tighten up on defense with 12 seconds left as a lob pass into the post was poked away from the 6-foot-2 Lauryn Robinson and secured by CU. Ryan hit two free throws at the end to get the final tally.
ÂÂ
It was the seventh straight win for CU while the loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for TNU.
ÂÂ
Ryan scored 17 points for Cedarville while Kayla Linkous totaled six points and six rebounds. Kayla Jenerette chipped in with five points, three rebounds and four assists. CU's bench was outstanding outscoring Trevecca's 29-8.
ÂÂ
Raby led Trevecca with 15 points while Bell totaled 14 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Felker contributed nine points while Paige Baugher and Mitchell scored seven points each. The Trojans outscored the Lady Jackets 24-16 in the paint and converted 19 CU turnovers into 22 points.
ÂÂ
Trevecca returns to action Feb. 20 at Alderson Broaddus University (3-18, 3-9 G-MAC) for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff.
