Women's Basketball | Bellarmine Knocks Off Trevecca

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca women's basketball team (1-3) lost 72-60 to Bellarmine University (2-1) at the Trojan Fieldhouse. Bellarmine now owns a 2-0 advantage in the series. The teams will meet December 13 in Louisville, Ky. at Bellarmine.

The Trojans are back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Missouri-St. Louis (3-1). The Missouri-St. Louis Tritons have moved the game to McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. Fans unable to make the contest can watch the game on the Triton Sports Network or can follow along with live stats. Trevecca defeated Missouri-St. Louis, in the only meeting between the two schools, 71-67 last year in Nashville.
 
It was a tight battle throughout much of the first half Tuesday night, with the Knights leading 20-19 with 10:26 left until halftime. But the teams traded runs the rest of the half, first Bellarmine with a 12-4 spurt over the next six minutes to build a 32-23 lead, before the the Trojans scored the final 11 points of the half to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
 
Bellarmine started the second half with a 10-2 run, taking a lead the Knights would never relinquish. The Trojans were able to pull within one on a Haley Felker (SR/Kingston Springs, Tenn.) 3-pointer that made it 45-44 with 11:05 left, but the Knights answered with a 13-2 burst and Trevecca never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
 
Christina Curtner (SR/Chapel Hill, Tenn.) led the Trojans with 18 points, while Britt Bell added 17 points and nine rebounds. Megan Kilburn (SO/Summertown, Tenn.) chipped in nine points, and Felker played a solid all-around game, finishing with eight points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Freshman Beth Bowers led the Knights with 18 points off the bench, as the Bellarmine reserves outscored Trevecca's bench 40-11.
 
Bellarmine shot 40.3% (27-of-67) from the field, including 7-of-20 (35%) from 3-point range, while Trevecca made just 33.3% (22-of-66) of its shots, including 6-of-20 (30%) from beyond the arc. Both teams struggled at the free throw line, the Knights making just 57.9% (11-of-19) while the Trojans knocked down 10-of-15 (66.7%).
 
The Knights finished with a 49-41 rebounding advantage, including 17-15 on the offensive glass, which led to a 19-8 edge in second chance points.
