NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (0-1) lost its season opener to Maryville University - St. Louis (1-0) 75-68 in the G-MAC/GLVC Challenge at the Trojan Fieldhouse. Tyrell Corlew (JR/Louisville, Ky.) led three Trojan double-figure scorers with 21 points.

Trevecca will play Truman State University (1-0) at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated Lake Superior State University (0-1) 82-65 in Friday's first game of the challenge. Watch Live Saturday

After Max Mischkulnig gave the Saints a 1-0 lead, the Trojans scored eight straight and lead 8-1 following a Percy Blade (SO/Louisville, Ky.) three-pointer.

Trevecca lead 15-7 later, but the Saints rolled off 14 consecutive and built a 21-15 lead. Trevecca responded with a 7-1 run that put them up 26-24 with 3:03 on the first half clock. Trevecca held a 30-29 lead at the break.

The Saints started the second half with what would turn out to be the game-deciding run. The Saints built a 41-31 lead with a 12-1 start to the second half.

With 8:43 remaining the Saints led by 16 (59-43) and looked to be in the clear. Trevecca chipped away at the MU lead and with 5:00 remaining in the game the Trojans were within nine (63-54) after a pair of made free throws from Byron Sanford (JR/Louisville, Ky. ). Two more free throws from Jalen Palm (JR/Louisville, Ky.) and a layup from Tyrell Corlew cut the lead to just five (63-58) with 3:40 remaining.

With :39 seconds remaining the Saints lead was seven, but Jalen Palm hit a three and Sanford hit a free throw to make it a three point (70-57) with 30 seconds remaining. Sanford missed his second free throw attempt and Blade grabbed the rebound, but the Trojans couldn't score and from there the Saints were able to burn the clock and take the win 75-68.

In addition to his team-high 21 points, Corlew added four rebounds while hitting 9-16 from the field. Byron Sanford scored 17 points and added five rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Sanford was 7-10 from the foul line. Jalen Palm scored 15 and had a team-high four assists and added four rebounds. Percy Blade scored eight with three steals and a team-high seven rebounds.

As a team Trevecca shot 33.8% (22-65) from the field, 29.4% (5-17) from three-point range, and 70.4% (19-27) from the charity stripe.

The Saints had a 38-35 edge in rebounding but the Trojans had the edge in steal (11-3) which contributed to 25 Saint turnovers. Trevecca had just 14 turnovers. MU outscored TNU 32-26 in the paint while Trevecca had a 20-10 edge in points scored off of turnover.
