Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (10-8, 2-1 G-MAC) dropped a four-set match to Kentucky Wesleyan (7-6, 2-1 G-MAC) 3-1 (18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24) on Tuesday night in G-MAC play.
Trevecca will host Alderson Broaddus University (5-14, 2-2 G-MAC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Davis & Elkins College (4-7, 1-3 G-MAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Trojan Fieldhouse.
In the first set Trevecca led 4-2 early and later were tied with KWC 8-8. The Panthers rolled off 10 straight points for a 18-8 lead and then held off a Trojan rally for a 25-18 final. The second set was tight early on with Trevecca leading 14-12. With the match tied 15-15, the Panthers scored six straight for a 21-15 advantage and finished off the set with a 25-19 victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan started the third set on fire, leading 6-3, and it looked like the match was headed for a three-set sweep by the visitors. With KWC leading 11-8 the Trojans woke up and took a 20-15 lead with a 12-4 run. Trevecca held at least a two point lead the rest of the way before taking the third set 25-21. Katelyn Atkinson (SO/Hermitage, Tenn.) had a .500 attack percentage in the set with eight kills on one error in 14 attempts. She added four digs in that set alone.
The Trojans carried the momentum into the fourth set, another must win situation for TNU, with a 7-3 lead. Trevecca eventually pulled ahead 18-10 and looked to be on the way to forcing a fifth set. The Panthers didn't pack it in though. With Trevecca leading 19-11, KWC scored eight of the next nine points and closed the Trojan lead to just one at 20-19. Trevecca held off Kentucky Wesleyan until the Panthers took a 24-23 lead. Trevecca did tie the match at 24, but KWC finished off the Trojans 26-24.
Katelyn Atkinson, the G-MAC Player of the Week, notched 19 kills and 10 digs for another double-double. Loren Bennett (JR/Ooltewah, Tenn.) had 31 assists and 15 digs for a double-double as well. Kayleigh Jarrett (SO/Tehachapi, Calif.) returned from an injury and had five assists and 11 digs.
