Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (5-11, 2-4 G-MAC) lost 76-66 to Davis & Elkins College (9-6, 2-2 G-MAC) at the Trojan Fieldhouse. It was the first meeting between the two schools in men's basketball.
In the first half neither team established more than a three-point lead until the Senators used a 6-0 run to pull ahead 21-15 with 4:53 to go in the half.
Trevecca reacted with a quick 13-4 spurt that put TNU up 28-25 with 2:13 remaining. Taylor Clay and Nick Drake ignited the crowd. Drake tied the game at 23-23 on dunk and then moments later Clay capped the run with a three-pointer.
Juwan Strothers score the only points over the final two minutes and Trevecca held a 28-27 halftime lead.
Over the first five minutes of the second half D&E established the largest lead of the game with a 14-1 run. The Senators led 41-29 with 15:03 on the clock.
For most of the next six plus minutes D&E held on to the double figure lead.
With 8:53 to go the Senators held a 12-point (55-43) advantage. TNU used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to just seven (55-48), but Trevecca never cut it below six the rest of the way.
The Senators had a quick surge in the final minute to regain a double figure lead and settled for a 10-point 76-66 victory.
Two Trojans, Byron Sanford and Jordan Bedwell, fouled out in the final four minutes, leaving the already short-handed Trojans without two key players down the stretch.
Four Trojans scored in double figures, led by David Woodard's 14 points. Nick Drake (13), Jordan Bedwell (10), and Taylor Clay (10) also connected for double figure scoring.
Woodard added a team-high seven rebounds, though Byron Sanford equaled his total with seven as well. Christopher Elliott led the team with two assists. Bedwell recorded his first double figure scoring night of the season with 10 and added five rebounds.
As a team Trevecca shot 31% (21-68) from the field, 13% (3-23) from three-point range, and 65% (21-32) from the foul line.
The Senators outrebounded the Trojans 47-45, but turned the ball over 19 times to the Trojans 15.
Devin Miller led the Senators with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Trevecca will return to action one week from today, January 18th, when they visit Kentucky Wesleyan College (10-7, 5-1 G-MAC), the G-MAC preseason favorite. The game will be played at the Owensboro (Ky.) Sportscenter at 3:15 p.m.
