Box Score NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene (28-10) captured the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship Friday afternoon as it defeated Cedarville University (26-21) 8-0 in six innings at the TNU Softball Complex.

Trevecca has now claimed seven regular season titles and six conference tournament titles in school history. ÂÂ

Heather Shuler got things going for TNU in the top of the second. After Lacey Grimes walked, Shuler sent a shot to right-center scoring Grimes on a stand-up double.

The tournament's top-seeded team would extend its lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning. After Haylee Rogers reached first on a fielder's choice, Breanna Zeis would be walked to bring the score to 2-0. Mackenzie Leding followed with an RBI single to left field plating Aubrey Jordan. Grimes would drive in the final run with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Cedarville looked to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Shannon Muldowney doubled advancing Katie Woodard to third. Natalie Papini would end the threat however as she induced a fly ball to left field from Rachel Bull to end the inning.

The Trojans added four more runs in the seventh to put the game away. Jordan started the scoring with an RBI single. In the ensuing at-bat, Rogers reached on a fielder's choice scoring one and then a throwing error scored Jordan Griner. Leding closed out the scoring as she laid down a squeeze bunt scoring Rogers.

Papini (8-2) picked up the win for Trevecca tossing five innings, allowing just two hits and fanning five.

No Trevecca players picked up multiple hits on the day. Leding drove in a team-high two runs while seven others collected a hit.

Trevecca will now wait and see if they receive an at-large bid for the NCCAA Softball National Championship scheduled May 9-11 in Botetourt County, Va.
