Tichenor Leads Trevecca to 8-3 Win over Union

Box Score

NASHVILLE – Tyler Tichenor went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored as Trevecca Nazarene (25-17) defeated Union University (9-32) 8-3 Tuesday night at Jackson Field in a non-conference baseball game.

The Trojans previously defeated the Bulldogs 9-3 back on March 6.

Union took a 1-0 lead in the first as a grounder Cole McAdams was mishandled along the infield that allowed Wacey Russell, who doubled to start the game, to cross home plate.

Trevecca would tie the game in the home half of the second as Tichenor singled through the right side scoring Hunter Newman who led off the inning with a double.

After two innings of scoreless play for both teams, Trevecca would plate three runs in the fifth. Newman hit a two-run homer down the left field and Blake Rogers followed with a solo shot of his own giving the Trojans a 4-1 lead.

TNU would add two more in the sixth as Cameron Boyett hit an RBI double and later scored on a passed ball.

The lead would be pushed to 8-1 in the seventh as Tichenor had an RBI single while Boyett connected again with an RBI double to left center.

Union added its final two runs of the game on a Cole McAdams two-run triple to left center bringing the score to 8-3 TNU.

Russell led Union with three hits.  John Reed took the loss for UU tossing five innings, scattering eight hits and allowing four earned runs.

Newman and Rogers each collected three hits and each homered for Trevecca.  Boyett went 2-for-3 with two RBI as well.

Five different Trojan pitchers made appearances on the mound. Codi Webb (2-1) picked up the win as he tossed an inning of relief allowing no hits and inducing two flyouts and a groundout.

Trevecca returns to action March 26-27 for a crucial Great Midwest Athletic Conference series with Cedarville University (20-10, 5-3 G-MAC). If TNU wins 3-of-4, they'll claim the inaugural G-MAC Regular Season Title.

The Trojans previously won two games over the Yellow Jackets March 30 winning 4-2 and 6-5.
