Zeis, Rogers Lead Trevecca to Doubleheader Sweep of Bethel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NASHVILLE – Haylee Rogers and Breanna Zeis combined to go 8-for-12 with six RBI as Trevecca Nazarene (21-10) swept a non-conference doubleheader over Bethel University (13-23) Tuesday afternoon at the TNU Softball Complex.

The Trojans invoked the run rule in each game winning the opener 10-2 and the nightcap 13-5.

In the opener, Trevecca got on the board in the first as Shelby Andrews connected with a two-run single to right center.  Later, Lindsey Stephens rounded home plate after a throwing error by the Lady Wildcats catcher.

Bethel threatened in the next inning as two runners were put into scoring position on a groundout from Lindsey Costello but Kelsey Kemp would strike out Shawna McAdams to end the opportunity.

Trevecca plated four more runs in the next inning to push its lead to 7-0. TNU got its first two runs on an infield error after a Kemp groundball.  Zeis followed with an RBI single and two batters later Stephens connected with an RBI double.

The Trojans added three more runs in the third before the Lady Wildcats got on the board in the fourth.  Julia Cruce singled to center field scoring Shelby Evans who had previously singled.

Bethel added one more run in the fifth on a Brooklyn Jenkins RBI single that brought the final tally to 10-2.

Kemp (8-2) tossed four innings allowing one run while striking out two.  The Trojans were led by Zeis. Andrews and Jordan Griner who each collected multiple hits.

GAME TWO

It was more of the same in game two as Trevecca jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first highlighted by Stephens's double to left field.

Trevecca added two more runs in the second as Rogers and Zeis each hit RBI doubles.

The Lady Wildcats cut into the 6-0 deficit in the third as Evans doubled to right center plating two. Bethel looked to tighten the deficit even more with three runners on base but a grounder from Alex Weatherly induced a force out at third ended the threat.

TNU exploded for six runs in the fourth. Two bases-loaded walks were issued to Aubrey Jordan and Lacey Grimes while Rogers and Kemp each drove in runs with a pair of hits.

Stephens tossed her ninth complete game of the season allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits.

Rogers and Zeis each went 3-for-4 while Mackenzie Leding went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Trevecca hosts Union University (21-18) April 25 for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
