Trevecca defeats Union 9-3

Box Score

JACKSON, Tenn.—Trevecca (8-9) jumped out early and finished late to defeat Union University (3-9) by a score of 9-3 Wednesday afternoon at Fesmire Field in a non-conference game.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for TNU.

In the first inning, the Trojans' Mark Rayburn scored after a bases-loaded walk was issued by Bulldogs pitcher Colin Hatch.

Trevecca would extend its lead to 4-0 in the top of the second.

After two hits and two stolen bases from Trae Weiss and Nick Howell, the Trojans had two runners in scoring position with just one out.  In the next at-bat, Rayburn sent a shot to the shortstop who made an error allowing Howell and Weiss to cross home plate. Hunter Newman then hit an RBI single to left field scoring Rayburn.

Union would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Colton Speed grounded out to second base scoring Zach Wylie.

TNU would put the game away in the seventh with four more runs.  After Newman doubled to center field pushing Jordan Foreman to third, Blake Rogers connected with a shot to right field extending Trevecca's lead to 5-1.  Two batters later Tyler Tichenor hit a two-run triple to right field.  Weiss would close out the scoring with his sacrifice fly to left field.

Trevecca added one more run in the eighth to push its lead to 9-1 before Union strung together three straight hits in the home half of that inning scoring its final two runs of the game.

Rob Rowland (2-1) was solid for the Trojans tossing seven innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run.  He induced 16 flyouts and four ground outs.

Newman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in for Trevecca. Howell and Foreman each collected multiple hits for the visitors while Rogers and Tichenor each drove in two runs.

Hatch took the loss for Union pitching just two innings, allowing five hits and four runs, only one of which was earned.

Wacey Russell went 2-for-3 for UU while Cole McAdams, Kyle Bryan and Speed each tallied two hits.

Trevecca will turn its attention to Mid-Continent University (4-10) who comes to Jackson Field March 6 at 6 p.m.
