Box Score 2 NASHVILLE – The Trevecca (8-5, 2-0 G-MAC) softball team took a step in the right direction Saturday afternoon as it defeated Cedarville University (11-10, 0-2 G-MAC) in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at the TNU Softball Complex.

The Trojans won game one 6-3 and game two 13-4. It was the first-ever G-MAC softball games for TNU and CU.

In the opener, the Lady Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Kelsey Wilson singled to left field to drive in Cedarville's first run. Kelsey Chapman followed with a sacrifice fly to center pushing CU's lead to 2-0. The visitors' final run came as Hayley Kitchen grounded out to short plating Wilson.

The Trojans would respond though in the bottom of the second to take a lead it would never relinquish. With two runners on, Shelby Andrews connected with a shot to left field which was then misplayed by the Lady Jackets outfielder plating two. Jordan Griner followed with an RBI single scoring Mackenzie Leding which tied the game at 3. TNU would take the lead in the next at-bat as Breanna Zeis singled up the middle scoring Griner. During the play Cedarville would try to run down Zeis which allowed Kemp to round home.

Over the next five innings, Natalie Papini would limit the Lady Jackets to just two hits. She picked up the win (4-2) tossing a complete game, scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs. Papini also struck out nine batters.

Heather Shuler and Zeis each had multiple hits for Trevecca.

Game two opened in favor of Cedarville again as it jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Kelsey Wilson scored on a wild pitch and Carlyn Hanzel hit an RBI single.

But Trevecca would come back in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Zeis hit an RBI double to right center and later scored after Cedarville issued a bases load hit by pitch.

CU took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third as Jessica Palm grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Tanya Busby.

Trevecca responded again during the home half of the third as Zeis socked a homer to center.
ÂÂ
TNU would take the lead for good in the fourth as Haylee Rogers crossed home after a wild pitch and Lindsey Stephens connected with an RBI double.

The Lady Jackets cut the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the fifth but that would be the closest they would get the rest of the way. Trevecca plated a run in the fifth and scored seven more in the sixth highlight by Kelsey Kemp's grand slam to center field invoking the run rule.

Stephens (3-1) picked up the win for TNU tossing six innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs and fanning two.

Aubrey Jordan, Heather Shuler, Stephens and Zeis each collected multiple hits for TNU.

Jennifer Spann took the loss for the Lady Jackets tossing 5.2 innings, allowing 12 hits and seven earned runs.

Busby went 2-for-3 with one run scored to lead Cedarville's offense.

Trevecca will return to action March 26 traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan (6-13) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
